He let out another little laugh. "Yeah, well." he shrugged, looking over at Avon. "That's not really that bad. I only know the bit of cooking that I do know because…well." he shrugged again, eyes flicking away. He wasn't about to spill his childhood to Avon.
Avon tilted his head, before noticing a familiar feeling in Nik's words. It was the kind of feeling that screamed, "I'm sorry, I can't tell you everything." He laughed, softly. "Don't worry, I get it." He said. "We all have our keepsakes." He said, as he referred to the memories Nik must've had as precious items.
Nik's memories were certainly not precious. They were more of the…vulnerable and scared kind of memories, the ones that still tore at him even years later. He nodded a little bit. "Yeah, alright." he took a deep breath, letting it out slowly.
"I said the wrong thing, didn't I? You're feeling somber, I didn't want to bring you to feel pain," He whispered. "I'm so sorry," He added, instantly. "How can I make you feel better?"
He blinked, and shook his head. "No, no, it's fine." he said quickly. "I'm fine." he ran a hand through his hair. "Don't worry about it."
"Alright then," He muttered. "How about we sing a little bit?" Avon suggested, quite randomly. He loved singing with people he knew adored him somehow. "That would be sweet."
Nik blinked in surprise. "You…want to sing with me?" he asked slowly, studying Avon. He set the plate down, running a hand through his curly hair, surprised by the question. Smoke stretched lazily, purring softly as he rubbed up against Avon.
"Well your humming was melodious, I think I could give it a chance." Avon said, honestly. He looked towards Nik, and noticed his surprised expressions. "You're sweet, Nik. Of course I'd like to."
Nik took a deep breath. "I-I'm not sure…" He fidgeted with his fingers, looking down at his feet, a little shy. "I…"
Avon dropped his head into his own hands. "I messed up again, didn't I?" He asked, with a sigh. "I'm literally so sorry," He mumbled.
"N-no, I just…" he bit his lip. "I'm not…extroverted? I…" he shrugged his shoulders, looking over at Avon. Smoke meowed unhappily at the shift, squirming in Avon's arms.
"Oh-" Avon said, with genuine shock. His eyes filled with wonder, and care. He really didn't interact with his introverted fans a lot, they never seemed to show up. "I'm way too extroverted, makes sense as to why this is awkward," He said, honestly.
He let out a faint laugh, and nodded. "Yeah. I just…I wasn't expecting…that sort of question? Kinda came out of nowhere and…i have a bit of anxiety because of…shit that happened, and…" he shrugged his shoulders, aware that he was babbling a little.
Avon nodded. "It's okay, it's okay. Don't worry about it, trust me, you're fine, big time fine, okay?" He said, rushing to make sure that Nik at least felt alright.
Nik stopped, closing his eyes for a moment. "Yeah. Sorry." he said, running a hand through his hair. "I'm…yeah. Sorry." he bit his lip. "I…" he shrugged.
Avon glanced around the room. He was being too straightforward, too scary. It was probably freaking Nik out. He grabbed his phone, and noticed a few messages. He tried not to care for them.
Nik took a deep breath. "Sorry." he said again, shaking his head. "But I'd…singing would be fine, I just…I don't know. Sorry." he let out a breathy laugh. Smoke jumped down, padding over to Nik and rubbing against the smaller male's ankles.
"Don't be sorry, I should be saying that," Avon mumbled. He thought about his songs, and then realized he knew a great one. "How about we sing my latest tune?" He asked. "It's simpler, easier." He said, softly.
He blinked. "Er. Alright." He replied with a faint smile. He picked up Smoke, snuggling the little kitten close, pressing his nose to Smoke's grey fur.
( A smile! Ahhh that's adorable. )
Avon started the song out slower than he usually would have, careful to sing the lyrics more softly. He wanted to hear Nik, not himself. He had his song to listen to, but Nik was only for today.
Nik hesitated a moment, then moved and began to sing along quietly. He had a fair singing voice. Not as good as Avon had, of course, but definitely a good one. It was a soft tenor, light and gentle.
Avon kept his song going, eyes widening at Nik's beautiful voice. It contrasted his in the best way, and he loved it. You could have even said he was falling in love with his voice.
Nik kept singing quietly, eyes focused on his kitten instead of on Avon. He petted Smoke gently as he sang. He took a deep breath.
Avon continued on, they were nearing the song's end by then. He tried to tune his voice even lower, he wanted Nik to shine, without being obvious.
