"Er, yeah. Thank you so much, Ana." Olive said as she gathered her stuff and opened the door. She closed it and looked back at Ana once more and waved. With a sigh, she unlocked the door and went inside.

Ana didn't notice her look back, too busy checking her phone before she drove back home.
(Do you mind if we skip a couple weeks ahead or months maybe so that Ana and Madeline can have an established relationship before they break up or smthn? If you have something planned though, that's okay! We don't have to! :)
(I actually think that's a really good idea! Maybe a month and a halfish??)
(Okay, awesome, yeah!)
(would you like me to start?)
(That would be great!)
There had been a time where Ana would be with Madeline everyday after school, getting home late, and getting up early in the mornings to see her before school started. Something had changed though. Something about Madeline seemed off now and she didn't like it. They hardly ever hung out anymore.
Hey, you said we'd meet at my car at 3. Where are you?
Ana texted, leaning back in her seat and letting out a huff.
yeah..sorry..had things to do.
You've been saying that for the past week now.
yeah well. I'm sure olive isn't busy. why don't you just hang out with her instead?
She's probably home by now, plus I had plans with you, not her.
you always seem to find an opportunity to hang out with her. even if we had hung out today you'd still be talking about her
What are you implying??
you're always talking about her and I see the way you look at her. it's like she's your girlfriend and not me. you're clearly in love with her. us dating isn't working out anyways.
Are you seriously breaking up with me over this??
guess so. you'll realize i'm right soon enough.
Olive was indeed already home. The week after her talk with Ana, she had found a club that was perfect for her, winter guard. She immediately clicked with the group and she had made some friends, none as good as Ana though. But, Liv still constantly thought about Ana, even if it was subconsciously. She had kind of suppressed her crush on Ana, only because she had gotten busier. Both that and the fact that Ana seemed to be spending all of her time with Madeline, she didn't see her quite as much as she would have liked.
Now she was sitting on her bed, actually socializing with the winter guard group chat, and listening to music like typical Olive.
Ana sat back, turning her phone off and staring down at her lap. What the heck had just happened? She stayed frozen for at least another hour, thinking about Olive. I'm not in love with her..that doesn't make any sense. She's my best friend. It doesn't make any sense. She thought, picturing Olive in her mind. She's just sort of..perfect. That's what you want in a best friend, right?
She had finally made it home and stared at Olive's contact photo, considering texting her. She's probably busy with her new friends. What if she likes them better than me? She better not. She put down her phone angrily and eventually fell asleep a couple hours later.
With at least ten minutes of no activity on the group chat, Olive turned off her phone, just listening to the music through her earbuds. She knew this feeling all too well, talking to no one since everyone was too busy to do anything with her. Ana was to busy with Madeline, like always, and everyone else had other clubs and obligations.
(Sure!)
Ana woke up early the next morning, habit. She threw on a hoodie, Olive's favorite one coincidentally, and some dark maroon jeans and left for school. She didn't want to see Madeline or Olive. It would have just made the most sense to skip school that day but it would take even longer to catch up on missing assignments if she did that. She pulled the hood up over her head once reaching school, glaring down at the ground while entering and going to her locker.
Olive was already at her locker since the bus was always so early. She glanced up in time to see Ana, without Madeline which seemed strange to her. With Ana finally not with her girlfriend, Olive went over to Ana. "Hey~! How are you?" She said hopefully loud enough for Ana to hear of everyone else talking in the building. She then noticed the hoodie and smiled more than she already was.
Damn it. Ana huffed, a bit irritated at Olive's sudden appearance. She's always so happy and cute all the time. It's infuriating.
"I'm fine." She muttered, stopping next to Olive and still glaring down at the floor, shifting her feet. I see the way you look at her.. What is that even supposed to mean?? I don't look at her a certain way. How do you even look at someone differently?
Olive frowned as Ana responded. She was definitely not fine. And she knew it would definitely be hard to get Ana to talk or explain anything. But she would definitely try. "Hey…" She said softly, lightly wrapping her arms around Ana.
Ana froze and let Olive hug her for a moment before nudging her back gently. "What are you doing that for?" She asked, clearly irritated. She's so small and warm. It's not fair. Just..something about this isn't fair. She thought, glare softening into more of a stern look as she glanced down at Olive.
"Er… sorry… you just looked super down and I thought maybe it would help a little… sorry…" Olive said quietly, looking down after. She started fidgeting with her fingers. She sighed then looked back up to Ana. She was her best friend and she wouldn't stop at anything to make Ana feel at least a little better.
"It's fine..thanks, I guess." She replied quietly, reaching up and slightly awkwardly patting Olive's head. A hint of admiration crossed her face before she shoved her hands in her pockets and the glum look returned. "How's your club going?" She asked, dreading the answer. Olive had probably made so many new friends. Maybe she had met someone. Someone better looking and nice and friendly. Ana could feel herself begin to glare at the floor again just thinking about it.
"Oh, it's been amazing! We're performing during halftime at the basketball game on Friday if you wanna see it. I love it so much, but you know what would make it better?" Olive asked rhetorically, "If you were in it or if it didn't take up so much of my time so I could see you more often."
"I'm sure your other friends are a better use of your time than me, Liv." She muttered, clenching her hands inside of her pocket. Of course she loves it. This is just pity, it has to be. I've hardly seen her in the past couple weeks.
"What!?! Never!" Olive looked surprised and almost offended. "You're not my best friend for nothing. I wouldn't leave you for someone else that easily. Yeah, they are pretty great friends and I do like hanging out with them, but not as much as I like hanging out with you." She explained softly and sincerely.
Ana started, not looking up at Olive. “You must hate me then. That’s basically what I did to you.” She said in reply, glancing up as the first bell rang. “I should go.” She muttered, turning and starting to walk towards her first class.
Olive stood in place for a second then speed-walked to catch up to Ana, they had the same class after all. She didn't say anything just since she didn't know what to say. Ana hadn't completely done that, had she? Olive didn't think so.
Ana glanced over at Olive for half a second before sitting down in her seat and slouching down with her legs out in front of her. She retreated into her hoodie, making it so her mouth was covered up. She didn't say I was wrong. I feel like I kind of wanted her to..
Olive took her seat in front of Ana with a sigh. After maybe a minute, she turned around a small smile on her face. "You know what, you're the best friend I've ever had and there's no changing that, even if we don't hang out as much or if you're with Madeline more than you used to be or if I somehow managed to get more friends. Just know that, okay?" The teacher then came in and called attention to the class.
