Ana averted her eyes and looked down at the floor while Olive was talking, listening intently. She felt a sudden rush of..sadness? Guilt? She wasn't sure.
Madeline broke up with me yesterday. She texted Olive after the teacher started their lesson.
The teacher turned to the board as she continued her lecture, Olive opened her phone, her heart dropping instantly. She glanced back up at the teacher then behind her to Ana. She took a breath and stood up to go talk to the teacher. "Um, Mrs. Walker, Ana and I signed up to help the librarian and it is time for us to go help her, may we go?" Olive asked nervously.
"Oh, You should have told me earlier, but yes, you may. Make sure to get notes from one of your classmates." Said the teacher with a small smile. Olive nodded and went back to her desk and gestured for Ana to follow her.
Ana gave her a confused look but nodded and got up, following her towards the library. She stayed silent, hoping that Olive wouldn't mention what she had just told her. She's going to ask why Madeline broke up with me..I'm a horrible liar..I can't not tell her. This is bad.
Instead of going to the library, Olive took a turn and lead Ana to the main area outside. Yes, it was cold, but it was a nice area. Once they got there Olive simply wrapped her arms lightly around Ana, just staying there for a while, not really wanting to let go.
Ana looked down at her for a moment before wrapping her arms around Olive in turn, hugging her tight. She rest her face against the top of Olive's head, wondering why hugging Olive was one of the best things in the world.
Olive smiled a little and tightened her hug. "I know how much you hate explaining these things, so I'm just going to say that I'm here and don't worry about expalining yourself." She said softly into Ana's shoulder. "Do you wanna go somewhere and ditch the rest of the day?"
“Yeah..that’d be great.” She replied quietly, voice softer then before. Thank you so much..god I’m so relived I could kiss her. She thought, immediately dispelling it. I love her, not in that way though. She’d make a pretty great girlfriend though.. Her grip on Olive not loosening.
Olive's small smile grew. She didn't make any effort to move at all, enjoying this rare moment of affection coming from Ana.
Ana eventually pulled away, avoiding eye contact with Olive. “Are we going, or not?” She asked, putting her hands back in her pockets.
"Definitely, where do you wanna go? I don't actually have anything in mind…" Olive confessed. She just wanted to be away from school with Ana.
“Coffee? There’s a place a couple blocks from here.” She suggested, hoping Olive would like the idea. It would be warm in a coffee shop too and Olive seemed to always be cold.
"Ooo that sounds nice. Can we either stop home or go back to my locker so I can get a jacket?" Olive asked with a small smile, realizing how cold she was, now not in Ana's arms and without a jacket.
“Yeah..can I just wait for you out here?” She asked quietly, not wanting to go back inside. She knew what class Madeline had and wasn’t in the mood to see her.
"Yup! K, I'll be right back." Olive said before turning around and heading back inside. Right before the door, she got nervous, what if a teacher or the principal saw her? She took a breath and went through the door. She quietly walked to her locker, opening it quickly. She got her jacket and put it on while speed walking out again. She looked back for a second then went back to Ana.
"Okay, let's go."
“You look nervous.” Ana said, a flicker of a smile gracing her features. She wrapped her arm around Olive, resting a hand on waist casually. “All the teachers are completely clueless, we’ll be fine.” She added as they walked towards the street.
"Yeah. I mean, you know, I never do this kind of thing so of course I'm nervous." Olive said. She couldn't help but grin when Ana wrapped her arm around her. She could easily get used to it.
Ana glanced down at her, a sort of fondness in her gaze. “I haven’t skipped in a while.” She replied, seeming happier than before now that she wasn’t at school. “It’s nice once in awhile though.”
"Yeah, it's already pretty nice even though we aren't that far away from it," Olive said happily. She noticed Ana's change in demeanor, she was glad. Absent-mindedly, she leaned a little closer to Ana, her head almost on her shoulder.
Ana walked with Olive close for a while before they reached the coffee shop. I could do this all the time. She thought, glancing down at Olive. Whoever Liv eventually falls for is so lucky.
Olive could smell the scent of roasted coffee beans from outside the shop, she loved it. She opened the door for Ana, smiling widely.
Ana nodded in thanks and walked in, taking a deep breath and feeling instantly calm. She scanned the menu quickly while waiting for Olive to order.
Olive already knew what she wanted, it was her favorite. "Uhm, hello… can I get a, um, peppermint mocha? Oh and a chocolate crissant?" She said shyly. The cashier nodded and smiled, then looked up to Ana.
“A large iced caramel latte, thanks.” She said, taking out her wallet and paying the cashier. She walked over to Olive and leaned against the counter slightly. “Do you want to sit down? I can wait for our things.”
"Are you sure? I totally fine with waiting with you!" Olive said. To be completely honest, Olive was rediscovering her crush for Ana. It was coming back. With spending time with Ana and the thrill of skipping school, she wanted nothing but to be with Ana.
“Yeah it’s fine. I don’t mind.” She twitched the corners of her mouth up into a quick smile and nodded towards the tables. She kept feeling something whenever she heard Olive speak. It was like a little heartbeat in her stomach, beating frantically whenever she was near. Maybe it’s just cause I’ve known her so long..
