Alex sighed, "Yeah… I don't really care" he said, "besides you're the one who keeps attacking."

Deleted user

"And you're the one who keeps dodging me, Alex." Melanie sneered, letting her temper get the best of her, swinging a fist towards him.

Alex caught it, swinging his own. "There's a method to my madness beautiful" he said, twisting her arm and hooking a foot around her ankle as he said it, quickly pinning her on the ground.

"I am not losing that easily!" Melanie yelled at him, struggling against his grip and baring her teeth.

Deleted user

Alex laughed, pushing himself back up off of her, dancing a few feet away, still ready to go.

Deleted user

"Oh, you are so getting it!" Melanie zig-zagged towards him, sometimes running farther in one direction than another to keep Alex on his feet. When it seemed that she would punch him, she bounced back and ran behind him, landing a solid punch to his shoulder.

Alex whipped around and caught her arm, his other hand punching her hard in the gut, his foot trippinf her as his fist made contact before dancing away, rubbing his shoulder.

Melanie grunted and took a minute to get up, her breathing heavy. Her running would be slowed, and she mainly relied on the fact that her opponent was scared or intimidated of her and that she could outwit them. She was fighting a losing battle, but she didn't care. Melanie just wanted to prove that she was strong, not easily tossed around like a toy. She charged at him again, hoping to just ram into Alex with as much brute force as she could muster.

Alex dodged her, skidding to the side grabbing her lower leg, and pulling. "you weren't even trying that time!"

Deleted user

Some dude came from the bushes crying, I love your mom!

Please leave. Now. This is not funny.

Deleted user

(Yeah, seriously, you're intentionally messing up the flow.)

Deleted user

(If they do it again I'm setting up a PM… Any stalkers who want in are welcome just let us know, and please don't do anything other than stalk or maybe give suggestions for plot…)

(Okay)

"I don't care! Just lose already!" Melanie yelled in a fit of rage. She couldn't care less if he was a half-wolf half-human, she just wanted to win. She got up and ran at him, not caring how powerful her punches were, just caring that she hit Alex.

Alex dodged most of them, flinching when she caught a tender spot on his ribs, Catching her arm he spun her around, pulling her into a tight hug, pinning her arms to her sides. "Calmate!" he said, "Seriously calm down! I'm not trying to win or lose. I can't help that I've been fighting since I was a child! I don't do it for fun or intimidation I do it for survival! I have skill from the many times I've been forced to fight for my life, for my family, and everything I care about." He took a deep breath, "You have to understand I've been fighting for as long as I can remember…"

Deleted user

"You don't know-you wouldn't even care-if I've seen and experienced the worst. You won't care. Nobody ever has." Melanie seethes, struggling against Alex.

Deleted user

"Hey.. If something happened to you I can tell you right now I do care." he said calmly, not letting go. "I'm willing to listen. Always. I know how sometimes even the smallest things can seem huge…"

Melanie stopped struggling, touched by his words, but rethought what she would say. "Just…Let me go. I should leave. I'm sorry I overreacted." Melanie wanted to add more, to tell him of why the way she was, but she stopped herself and bit the inside of her cheek.

Alex loosened his grip, enough so she could pull away, "You sure you don't need to talk?"

Deleted user

"I'm fine!" Melanie turned to him quickly, her hands clenched. She closed her eyes and shook her head for a moment before calming down. "I'm fine. I'll see you tomorrow at school." Her voice was dry and monotone as she turned back around and walked in the direction of her house, having a hand covering where she was punched in the gut. I'm fine, she tried to convince herself, but there was another voice in the back of her mind. No, you're not. And somebody bothers to care.

Alex watched her go, quiet, unmoving. I know that look he thought. Sighing he waited until she was long gone before pulling up his shirt to reveal many old scars, checking the one on his ribs, which happened to be the same spot she'd punched him. "That's gonna bruise badly…" he said to himself pulling his shirt back on and picking up his sack. Shouldering it he headed home.

Melanie had no idea how to hide the fact that she was outside away from her scowling mother, so she didn't. The only thing that they had in common was their scowls. Cierra might not do it as often, but Melanie knows that whenever her mother scowls, she means business.
"Where were you? I've been calling you for the past half hour!" Cierra yelled, also a thing she rarely did.
"I left my phone in my bag. I went outside to wander about. I tripped and fell a few times." Melanie shrugged, a glazed, dull look in her eyes.
"Fine, but you're going to bed early. No phone for a day. You know not to go out into the woods, especially not without anyone's permission." Cierra eyed Melanie and nodded in the direction of her daughter's room. Melanie walked to her room, but slowly, not really focusing on going to her room. She was thinking of Alex.
He could be a friend. Mom's always wanted you to have one. He seems to care about you, unlike other people would.
No, you don't need anyone to baby you and sugarcoat everything, even if he's some magical being.
But it was nice that he cared.
And Melanie fell asleep to that one peaceful thought, her lips curled up in a smile.

Alex stumbled into his small one-room apartment, ignoring the note his landlord had left for rent. The lady was nice, and knew about magic. Which was why she housed him. Alex sighed flopping back on the mattress. I have to admit that girl is kind of cute…. I hope she's alright…. the punch was a little harder than I'd meant it to be… he thought, staring up at the ceiling for a long time before falling asleep.

(Timeskip, I'm assuming?)

Melanie woke up to the sound of her alarm blaring in her ears. She woke up, but not in a good mood. She laid in bed for a good five minutes before actually getting up, looking in her large mirror on her dresser, noticing both the bags under her eyes and a bad case of bed head. She groaned, but eventually got up to get dressed, clean herself up, and get ready for the bus to come. Melanie left the house earlier than usual and waited for the bus to arrive, which took about five minutes. The bus ride was calm and quiet compared to the hustle and bustle in the Commons area of the high school. Melanie, upon arrival, was once again met with stares, even as she sat down at her usual spot. She didn't care to glace up at anyone, being both physically and mentally drained from Alex's 'training.'

Alex was up with the sun as usual, hunting down his breakfast as he took his usual route through the woods to school. Loping up through the trees he shifted midstride and jogged across the football field and up to his locker. Pulling out a special booklet he headed to music class, taking his seat with a strange looking flute.
