Alex broke into a run as soon as he reached the trees, he waited until he couldn't see the school before shifting. He took the form of a very large, gold furred wolf. His green eyes glinted as he ran faster, tail streaming out behind him, the sunlight bringing out the red undertones in his fur. After catching his dinner, eating it charred, he dropped his schoolbag on the ground, looking down at the golden band on his right wrist. His right hand twitched, and the band became a shining golden sword. Alex smirked launching into a series of complex movements, clearly training for a potential battle, and by the look on his face: For fun.
(Crud crud crud! How should I get Melanie to run into Alex..?)
(Have her wander through the woods and spot a flash of light, remember he's half wolf, that run could've easily taken him miles away, so he could be within 20 min walk of her house by chance.)
Melanie was a multitude of words, frustrated being one of them. Anxious being added when she saw the flash of light. She-as stealthily as she could, which wasn't much-walked towards it, and held up her fists. She was unsure of what the heck was there, and she didn't know if it was friendly or not. She determined it probably wasn't. As she inched closer, she hid behind a tree, just as a gust of wind went towards her.
Oh, oh no. It-it can… (The wind blew her scent to Alex) One solid thought emerged through her mind clearly: RUN!
And run she did. She didn't care that she was making a ruckus, she just needed to live.
Alex heard something snap behind him, the magic fading instantly, the blade reverting to become a wrist band once more. Alex ran, instantly on the person's trail, catching a scent he realized who it was, Great… he thought, sprinting after her. His feet flew over the tree roots, pounding on the earth as he dodged around a tree coming out in front of her chest heaving as he caught her shoulders. "Please.. don't run, give me a chance to explain…"
Melanie froze for a second before elbowing Alex, diving to her left and stumbling a little before resuming her run.
20 minutes of walking, that's, let's say, 1 mph… that's a third of a mile… I'm running at, at the most, 5 mph… that's… 4 minutes!?At the minimum!?
Alex sighed sprinting after her again, he was breathing hard but he matched her pace. "Please stop and let me explain!!" he called, "I swear I won't hurt you!!" His voice was calm, but he knew how important it was to convince her he wasn't dangerous, otherwise things would be very bad for him.
"Yeah, right! And I'm totally not scared that you'll kill me at all!" Melanie started sprinting, her breath starting to wheeze. Stop it, stupid asthma! You are running for your life right now! You can act up later all you want, but not now! After about thirty more seconds of running, Melanie's pace slows, but she doesn't stop making a continuous effort to flee.
Alex sighs, sprinting in front of her, blocking her path for the second time. He rubbed the spot where she elbowed him, That's gonna bruise… He looked her in the eyes, calm, hiding the internal panic at being caught. "Listen… to put it flatly… I can do this all day…" he said, facepalming he tried to think of a way to explain. "Secondly, I swear I am not gonna hurt you, or anyone else. Third, I need you to calm down and listen to me ok?"
Melanie scowled and balled her fists, but said nothing. She nodded. She was listening, but she was ready to bolt-or fight-if he tried anything.
Alex sighed when he saw that she wasn't trying to run. "Ok… Just how much did you see?" he asked, trying not to show how nervous he was.
(I have to go, I'll respond either later today or tomorrow)
"That's not the best question to ask for someone who believes that they're running for their life." Melanie's voice was tense. "I saw a non-native wolf in the area. I fled. You came from absolutely nowhere. I want to believe that you keep a wolf as a pet, but that seems illogical."
Alex sighed, "Don't freak" he said firmly before shifting. Sitting directly in front of her, in wolf form.
"You-you're not-"Melanie backed away by ten feet as fast as she could. "That isn't possible! Human DNA cannot just reconstruct itself into wolf DNA, and vice versa! I mean, hell, I'm expecting for me to wake up in bed right now, or to be told I'm hallucinating, but I can't-this is too real!" Melanie started pacing, not moving towards the wolf, but letting her guard slightly down and she thought, rambling all she knew about humans and wolfs and DNA.
Alex rolled his eyes. "I'm a halfblood Wolf. Half human, half wolf." He said, knowing that there really wasn't any scientific way to explain it.
Melanie stopped pacing. "Yeah, right! And I'm a magician!" Melanie scowled, crossing her arms. "You make no sense whatsoever. Shouldn't you be all, 'oh, now that you saw me I'll have to kill you because humans are untrustworthy?' Especially when you're talking to me? Because I'm the worst person to show that to, just to let you know."
Alex shifted back to human form. "I am gonna have to ask you to keep quiet about me… but I'm not going to kill you." he said insulted that she would suggest it. "As for me showing you, I didn't really have a choice after you saw me. And as for humans being untrustworthy? I'm half human, so you just insulted both of us." He sighed thinking, "Last thing, magicians are just illusionists. But magic is part of why I exist, and don't look like some literal half wolf half human freak."
"You really need to know when to shut up. Sadly that's hypocritical on my part. Enough said, the answer is no, I won't tell anyone. I have no one to really talk to who doesn't keep in mind of my violence issue, including my mom. So sure, as long as you don't interfere with my life, we're good. If you do, expect me to remind you of my 'fighting issue.'" Melanie started walking swiftly to her house, keeping in mind where Alex is while doing so.
Alex watched her, "Seriously?!" he called, "It's that easy to get you to keep quiet?? How do I know you won't call the authorities on me?! How do I know I won't end up running for my life again, or worse, on dissection table?!"
"I guess you'll have to take my word for it, then. Anyways, even if I do anything, you could kill me and pretty much nobody would care." Melanie walked past him, an almost smug smile on her face.
"I already swore I wouldn't hurt you! And by law of my kind I can't!" he called, "Whatever you do I can't stop you. Not by force."
"Meaning?" Melanie turned around, looking back at Alex, an eyebrow slightly raised.
"Meaning I'm bound by honor not to hurt you. Meaning I can't stop you if you tell. Meaning a lot of other things I'm sure you can guess." he said flatly.
