Sabina soon followed him, “I have a library card so you can use mine”
“Alright.” Lloyd walked into the library and walked around until he found books on police officers. It was a bit difficult to find, since English wasn’t his first language (Latin of course), but he managed. “Is this what I need?” He held up a book about police training to show to Sabina.
Sabina nodded, “It is, indeed. I’ll go look for a few more things if you want to browse around some more.”
Lloyd looked at the spines of the books on the shelf, trying to figure out what they were about. Stupid English… why must they make their language so complicated? He picked up a book containing the laws of the town.
Sabina browsed through the fiction genres, intermittently taking out books to look at the covers, then putting them back. She glanced over to Lloyd, “What book is that?”
"I believe it's about the specific laws of this town. I figured it might be helpful." Lloyd shrugged, looking at the back of the book.
“They’re pretty basic laws, but yeah, they’d be helpful.” She agreed, turning her attention back to another book that caught her eye.
"Well, I'm not very familiar with human laws. I'm sure they're different than the ones I'm used to."
“Most likely, yes. Some of them are kind of dumb that nobody would do. Like there’s one that says you can’t eat oranges in a bathtub. But the other ones like murdering people are the ones they enforce.”
“It’s sad that the orange thing is a law because that means enough people have done it that it was a problem.”
“I don’t see how it is a problem, but you’re right.” She put the book back and walked over to him.
“How many of these books do you think I’ll need?” Lloyd picked up another random book.
“As many as you can read in a three weeks. You’ll have to return them here by then.”
“Alright.” Lloyd picked up a few books and looking around for where he was supposed to take them.
“There’s a desk just over there.” She gestured, “I’ll be right there when I’m done looking.”
Lloyd went over to the desk and set all his books down. He picked one up and began reading. He was still very good at reading, but he was considerably faster in Latin.
Soon enough, Sabina approached with an armful of books, “Ok, I’m ready. There’s a checkout lady on our way out.”
“Alright.” Lloyd picked up his books and brought them to the desk, checking them out before they left.
Sabina checked out her own books and followed him to the exit, “I love this place.” She hummed.
“It seems rather convenient. They have a lot of books. I just wish they translated them into Latin…” Lloyd sighed and got back into the car. “I’ve heard it’s a ‘dead language’ on earth, though.”
“Yeah, it is pretty dead..except in college classes. People can learn Latin there.”
“College? Is it some type of school?” If I keep talking, maybe I won’t get nervous about the car…
“Yeah, it’s a school.” She opened the car door for him again, “But it’s not mandatory like the more juvenile ones. It’s higher education for people who want to get a degree for higher paying jobs. But again, it’s not as necessary.”
“What sort of payment do humans get?” Lloyd decided to just look at the book covers instead of out the window.
“It’s a currency called dollars, but when they get paid it’s pretty much all electronic now. But with machines you can convert it into physical currency.” She answered, pulling out into the roads.
