Kit nodded, smiling softly in return. "Mhmm! We all help each other with stuff. We're generally pretty friendly with each other. Not all fairies are guides, though. They've got other jobs too."
Kit nodded, smiling softly in return. "Mhmm! We all help each other with stuff. We're generally pretty friendly with each other. Not all fairies are guides, though. They've got other jobs too."
"Well, what other jobs are there?" Marin asked. They let their hold on Kit relax some, still letting him rest on their lap and chest.
"Um… well, some people do farming, some work in the shops in the villages… stuff like that, I dunno." He shrugged.
"Ah, I see. Humans do a lot of jobs like that, too," Marin pointed out. "There aren't really guides."
"Then how do foreigners find their way through the human realm?" Kit asked, bewildered.
"Well, most people try to find their way on their own," Marin explained, "or they use maps."
"Interesting… isn't the human realm super big, though?" He asked. "It would be hard to navigate alone! Isn't it dangerous?"
"It is hard, and dangerous at times," Marin agreed, "But we humans are used to that."
"Maybe you should get guides then so it isn't so dangerous!" Kit huffed a bit, toying with his clothes. "You shouldn't have to get used to it being dangerous."
"Well, people aren't as willing to be guides," Marin explained. "Most people don't want to help others like that. There are some, in the most dangerous areas, but they're very expensive to hire."
"That's so weird… we don't charge anything here. It's just smart and helpful to guide people through our realm. It's dangerous here."
"Well, humans can be a lot more greedy," Marin admitted, sighing softly. "It's saddening, but it's how things are."
"Why don't they just be nicer then?" Kit asked, confused. "They probably don't like it when people are mean all the time, right?"
"What they like is money," Marin said, shaking their head. "Money means a lot more to most humans than it does to faries, it seems."
"Yeah, money isn't too important here… we often do bartering or just give things away for free." Kit shrugged a bit.
"A lot of humans don't do that," Marin explained. "Money is what drives the human world. I think you have a much better idea of how to do things, though." The mage chuckled some, resting their chin on Kit's head.
Kit hummed softly and relaxed, huddling up in Marin's arms. "Yeah… yours sounds stressful. How would I even buy things? I don't have any money. Do kids get jobs too if they aren't guides?"
"They do," Marin said. "They work on farms, or other odd jobs around town." Marin rubbed Kit's back still, smiling softly.
"That's cool… what do you think I'd do?" He asked, humming thoughtfully. "Since I wouldn't be able to be a guide and all."
"Hmm…" Marin thought for a moment. "Well, you would probably have been apprenticed to a mage."
"Cool!" Kit grinned brightly up at Marin. "You're a mage, right? So I could've been apprenticed to you!"
"That's right, you could have," Marin said, chuckling some. They smiled, holding Kit close.
"That would be cool! Do you have an apprentice?" He asked curiously. "Or have you had one before?"
"I don't have an apprentice," Marin admitted, smiling weakly. "I've never taken the time to look for one, and I'm constantly traveling so it would have to be someone who's willing to leave home for a long time."
"I guess that makes sense. Fairies tend to be wandering a lot, especially if we're guides, y'know? We're taught to be self sufficient early on."
