"I know," Marin said softly. They hummed some, running their fingers through Kit's hair and holding the small boy.
"I know," Marin said softly. They hummed some, running their fingers through Kit's hair and holding the small boy.
Kit shifted uncomfortably and closed his eyes, leaning into Marin's hand. "Um… c-can we talk about something else?" He asked softly.
"Of course," Marin said, still gently rubbing Kit. "How does practicing magic while we travel tomorrow sound?"
"Sounds good to me…" Kit smiled weakly and nodded, relaxing slightly in Marin's arms. "I should be able to do it while we travel since I float most of the time."
"Sounds good to me too. I can work with you on it." Marin offered a small smile, rubbing Kit's back as they thought.
"Will you want to try water magic again, or perhaps more fire magic?"
"Uhm… whichever is fine." Kit shrugged a bit. "I'm happy to try whatever. Seems like I'm sorta more inclined to fire, but… I can try anything."
"Yes, it seems like that to me too," Marin agreed. "We can work on it together, then." The mage hummed softly, lightly patting Kit's head with one hand.
Kit nodded a bit and yawned, keeping close to Marin. "I wanna be able to do water magic, but… I dunno. I might not be able to."
"Well, we can work on techniques with fire magic, and then we can see if you can take up water magic, too. I wasn't able to even try to do shadow magic until I had a firm grip on fire."
"Alright… I guess that makes sense. Magic is confusing…" He whined, yawning again and closing his eyes.
"Magic can be very confusing," Marin agreed. "It's worth it in the end, though, to figure it out."
"Mhmm. At least I'm pretty good at floating, yeah?" He looked up at Marin, humming softly. "Can you float?"
"I can not float," Marin confirmed, chuckling some. "It looks useful, though. Perhaps you have some air magic in you as well as the fire?"
Kit shrugged a bit. "Dunno. Floating is pretty natural for our fairies. It's like, the first thing we learn since that's how most of us get around."
"Ah, really? I didn't know that." Marin offered a small smile, chuckling some.
Kit nodded, humming thoughtfully. "Most fairies can float. I haven't met anyone who prefers to walk, honestly. Most humans walk, right?"
"Almost every human walks," Marin said. "Most can't float unless they have air magic."
"Oh, really? That's wild! Don't your legs get tired?" He asked curiously.
"Yes, they do," Marin answered. "We can go pretty far, though, with enough practice." Marin lightly patted Kit's head, chuckling some.
"Interesting…" Kit leaned into the touch, seeming content for the moment. "What else do humans do that's different?"
"Hmm…" Marin thought for a moment. They wanted to avoid any subjects that would upset Kit, after all. "Well, humans usually live in really big cities with lots and lots of other people."
Kit nodded a bit, looking up at Marin curiously. "That sounds cool! We don't have big cities here. Mostly just the little towns. Do you have towns like that?"
"Yes, there are towns like that too. Lots of people like to live in different ways. Some go to the cities, some to small towns or villages, and others want to live all on their own." Marin offered a smile as they explained.
"That makes sense… usually fairies live in groups, but not super big groups. We just have a lot of smaller villages and stuff. It works out pretty well." He shrugged a bit.
"I see. It sounds really interesting," Marin noted, offering a smile.
