Mara wasn't much of an early riser. She was able to, especially when it was important, but given the option, she would prefer to sleep in… and honestly, she didn't really own a watch or clock of any kind. When she finally did get up, it took her a couple minutes to remember that what happened yesterday wasn't a dream and she smiled softly at that as she started to get ready for the day.
Darius smiled as he cooked, spatula in hand as he turned the sausage links in the pan. He wasn't going to make much more than normal, but he figured it would be good to not just have the same amount as always. So, there was an entire extra link for Mara, and Darius was planning on cooking up some french toast to go with them.
Mara decided, if the offer was still open, that she wasn't going to look like she just rolled out of bed when she joined Darius. A lot of her clothes looked similar but it didn't matter too much to her. She knew that he probably wouldn't be able to notice, at least she didn't think he would, but she went ahead and washed her face before brushing her hair. After getting dressed, she grabbed her little bag with her hook and some other equipment and headed down one of the many passages she used to get around the house, making her way towards the kitchen.
The sausage and the french toast weren't the only things Darius was making. He didn't quite know what kinds of food Mara liked, so he was trying to make some of everything. The french toast would be the sweet, and the sausage the umami… now to figure out the spicy. Darius thought a moment, deciding on an omlette. You couldn't go wrong with eggs and vegetables, right?
The man hummed as he cooked, setting the finished food to the side on a plate.
Mara smiled softly when the delicious smells seeped through the wall and reached her. It wasn't too much longer before she crept out of her hidden corridor and onto the kitchen counter. Her eyes widened and her mouth watered as she saw all the food Darius was making for them.
Darius hummed as he flipped the omelet, looking up when he spotted Mara.
"Good morning!" He said, smiling brightly. "I wasn't sure what all you'd want, to I tried to make a few different things." The man turned his attention back to the omelet cooking, his smile not leaving his face.
“Good morning.” Mara smiled back as she carefully made her way out into a more open area. “This all looks so good. And it smells delicious.” she told him, watching him work as her stomach gave a small growl.
"Thank you! I do my best." Darius chuckled some as he finished the omelet, sliding it onto the plate with the other food.
"Here, have whatever you'd like," he offered.
Mara nodded slightly as she walked up to the plate that was big enough for her to walk across. She was still a little overwhelmed by how much food was in front of her. Of course, she knew that it probably wasn't very much to him but the sheer size difference meant that a single sausage link that Darius had made just for her would last her for breakfast for a whole week on its own.
Darius stood back as Mara looked over the food, moving to start cleaning up the slight mess he had from all the cooking. He hummed as he washed the pan, standing on the other side of the kitchen at the sink.
Mara hummed slightly as she looked at the food. “Is the bread supposed to smell so sweet?” she asked since she had never seen bread prepared that way. Everything else was fairly familiar… even though she’d never actually had eggs before either but she knew what it was.
Darius looked over, nodding.
"Yes, it is," he assured, smiling some. "It's called french toast, and it's a very sweet breakfast food." He finished with the dishes, pulling a chair over to sit with Mara at the counter.
“Oh.” Mara nodded at the explanation, though she didn't really know what “french” meant… She’d heard the word before she just didn't understand it the way he did, it was like that with a lot of words for her. Seeing him sit down, she reached into her bag and pulled out a small piece of tin foil and her version of a bread knife. It was the only thing she could think of that could cut through whatever he served.
Darius waited patiently for Mara to get what she wanted from the food, offering a small smile. It didn't cross his mind that she didn't really need much at all compared to what he had cooked, content to share all of it.
Mara smiled back, a little nervously before carefully cutting a small piece of the french toast for herself. Though because of her size, it ended up being mostly crust. Bt she didn't seem to mind and certainly wasn't going to complain. Honestly, she wanted to have a little bit of everything Darius had made but she didn't want to seem greedy.
Darius would have pointed out how Mara should really try a part of the inside bread, but he didn't say a word. She looked content with what she had, and that was okay. He turned to grab his own utensils then, grabbing a fork and knife as he waited. He wanted Mara to have enough, that was why he offered this after all.
Mara hummed softly for a second before shaking her head slightly with an embarrassed chuckle. “I… I forgot to bring something for a plate.” she murmured as she started folding the piece of foil.
"Mm?" Darius looked over when he heard Mara mutter something, not able to make it out entirely.
"Need something?" He moved back over, setting his utensils down to the side.
Mara blushed when he called her out, not having expected him to hear her. “It’s nothing. I just realized that I didn't bring something to use as a plate.” she admitted as she finished making a small spoon out of the folds of the foil.
"Oh! Here, I can figure out something you could use as a plate real quick, I don't mind," Darius offered. He gave a small smile, already pulling away for something to make into the plate for Mara.
“You don't have to.” Mara insisted, feeling bad for bringing it up. She didn't mean to burden him with her inconvenience. “I… I have plates I can use. I just left them in my home.” she explained a little embarrassed.
"Oh, right, of course. We could always go get one real quick?" Darius offered instead. With his help it'd be less than a minute to go get it, and he knew it too.
Mara looked up at him, a little shyly. Obviously, she knew that it would be faster for him to carry her back to her home than if she ran… plus she still wasn't sure about showing him where her tunnels were. But she still felt like she'd done something wrong and didn't want to bother him with it. Then again, he was already standing… “Well, if you're sure you don't mind.” she replied.
"I'm sure," Darius assured. He moved his hand to Mara's side, offering his smile still. She didn't do anything wrong, of course, and if she said something like that Darius would be quick to correct her.
“Ok.” Mara agreed, setting down her things except for her bag and carefully climbing onto his hand. Though she was still a little apprehensive. Not about being carried, she didn't mind that too much and chances were Darius would have offered to carry her back to her home after breakfast anyway, but she felt disappointed in herself and had caused a problem for him.
