“Soldiers?” she echoed uncertainly. War was something that Mara had never learned about as people her size couldn't participate even if they wanted to. It was far too dangerous just trying to survive.
“Soldiers?” she echoed uncertainly. War was something that Mara had never learned about as people her size couldn't participate even if they wanted to. It was far too dangerous just trying to survive.
"Ah- warriors," Darius clarified. "Fighters that join together for a cause and to fight against other soldiers." Darius shook his head some.
"It can be… quite violent."
“Oh.” Mara nodded, seeming to understand that explanation much better. She actually still had a few more questions but decided to wait until the movie was over so she wouldn't bother Darius too much.
Darius nodded some as Mara seemed to understand, turning back to play the movie again. He didn't speak, smiling some as he relaxed.
Mara did her best to stay quiet and keep any questions to herself for the rest of the movie, though she was still confused by somethings.
Darius glanced over on occasion to see how Mara was doing, smiling slightly as he pulled his pillow close to his chest and watched the end of the movie.
As they watched the movie, Mara had quite a few different reactions to the whole thing. As someone who had never seen, much less heard of, a desert before she was fascinated by the depiction of Tatooine… though the cantina scene really confused her with all the different species. And she jumped, covering her mouth, in shock when Old Ben cut that one guy’s arm. Though she laughed a little at the scene with Jabba as he reminded her of an oversized slug.
Darius kept quiet, occasionally looking over to see how Mara was reacting to certain things. He'd have to ask her what she thought afterward, then. He smiled as well, looking to the movie. He didn't have as clear of reactions, occasionally laughing but not doing much else.
Mara looked up at Darius as the movie ended and the names started playing. “You… That was… incredible.” she told him.
Darius looked over when he heard Mara speak, smiling brightly.
"I'm glad you liked it!" He said. He still had his arms around the pillow in his lap, tilting his head some towards it as he spoke with Mara.
"What did you like the most?"
Mara nodded enthusiastically. “I did like it. The story was very good.” she told him.
“My favorite part…” she said thoughtfully. “Well, I liked when Luke swung over the bridge. Probably because it's relatable for me.” she chuckled, referring to her skills with her hook. “Umm… But I really liked when Han came back and when Luke heard Old Ben before he turned off… that thing he had to look through.”
Darius nodded along as Mara explained what she liked, smiling brightly. He kept his head resting on the pillow, not moving closer to Mara as he would with others when he was listening intently. He'd noticed how she reacted to it, and wanted to let her feel comfortable.
“Darth Vader kinda freaked me out. I didn't like the weird sound he made.” Mara admitted, knowing she wasn't supposed to like him for the sake of the story.
Darius chuckled some.
"Yes, his wheezing can be quite grating on the ear. Though, there is a reason he makes the sound. They explain it in another one of the movies in the series."
Mara looked up at him in awe. “There’s more? More to this story?” she asked, very intrigued.
"Yes," Darius said with a nod. "There are at least five other movies about this length to fill out the story, though I don't think we'll have time to watch them all tonight." The man chuckled some, smiling.
“Wow.” she said as she leaned back. Mara was very impressed by the fact that there were so many stories about what she just watched.
"Mhm," Darius said, looking back to the screen. "People really like the story, so there's a lot of it."
“I can see why.” she smiled. “It’s a very interesting story. A little confusing but I still like it.” Mara admitted, thinking that maybe her confusion was because she was so different from everyone else who watched it.
"Me too! It can be confusing at times, even for me, but it's a lot of fun." Darius offered a sweet grin to Mara, nodding. He knew some things weren't that easy to follow along with, especially if Mara had no idea just how big Star Wars was.
Mara didn't even know how big this world was. She knew from her one and only time traveling that it was too big for someone like her, who didn't even go past the walls of the house. “What confuses you about it?” she asked, looking up at him.
Darius would be willing to show Mara the world if she let him. Even if it was just from the television.
"Well, there are some things mentioned in the movie that tie into the others," Darius pointed out, "And there is a lot about the Jedi you learn from the others too. Watching this out of context can be a bit confusing at times, but it makes sense the more you learn."
Mara would be very grateful for the offer and perhaps a bit overwhelmed when she learned exactly how big the world really was.
“Like why Darth Vader sounds that way and who this mysterious “Emperor” is and what happened between Han and Jabba?” she asked as examples.
"Yes, that's right," Darius said with a nod. "We should set some time aside later so we can watch all the movies!" He smiled, looking at Mara. This was so much fun for him, he was glad they had met.
Mara nodded eagerly at the suggestion. “Yes, please! That would be… I would like that.” she agreed though she wasn't just referring to the movies. In general, she was enjoying the time they spent together.
