There was a motel sign on top of a building that seemed mostly unoccupied, except for maybe some mice. In his state of fear, Bridge didn’t notice it.
There was a motel sign on top of a building that seemed mostly unoccupied, except for maybe some mice. In his state of fear, Bridge didn’t notice it.
Wolf looked up and saw the motel sign. He looked back down at Bridge. "Hey, we're going to have to climb," he said softly.
"We are?" Bridge looked back up at him, putting all of his trust - which was a lot - into this one boy.
He nodded and pointed up at the motel sign. He spotted a dumpster that they could climb onto, and Wolf could lift Bridge up onto the roof from there.
"Oh. Okay," He responded quietly, taking a small step forward.
Wolf directed him to the dumpster. "Here. I can lift you up from on here," he said.
"Okay," He said again, climbing up onto the dumpster and standing, still glancing around nervously.
Wolf climbed up as well, then grabbed Bridge to get ready to lift him up. "Ready?"
"Mhm." Bridge nodded, too scared to actually speak.
Wolf lifted Bridge up onto the rooftop, then climbed up after him.
“Thank you,” He mumbled, standing again. The wind had picked up a little here, and it ruffled Bridge’s coarse white hair.
"Yup." He ushered Bridge over to the motel sign, staying low to the roof as he went over to it.
Bridge followed him, so short that he didn’t need to crouch. He looked around nervously - per usual, he’d never been on a roof before.
Wolf sat down behind the sign and kept a careful eye on Bridge. "You okay?" he asked the nervous-looking boy.
“Yeah. I’ve…never been on a roof before…” He admitted softly, sitting down next to him.
"Well, it's pretty flat up here and we're not on the edge, so we should be pretty good." Wolf didn't judge Bridge for his admission. Really, most people didn't go on roofs.
“Oh. Okay,” He said quietly, looking around. “I wonder if the motel is still functional.”
"Might be," Wolf said, looking in the direction of the watch. "We can check it out when we're safe to move around freely."
“Okay,” He murmured softly, bringing his knees up to his chest.
Wolf tipped his head back to look up at the sky once again, leaning back on the sign behind him. He started to hum a random song that popped into mind.
Bridge looked over at him, tilting his head. He’d heard the song before, but he couldn’t place it.
Wolf spotted different patterns in the clouds once again. He liked looking up at the sky, for some reason. It brought him a strange comfort that he couldn't place.
Bridge looked up to the sky, trying to see what Wolf saw - but he couldn’t. “What are you looking at?”
"Clouds," he said simply. "I usually see different patterns or pictures in them. Probably because my imagination can go a little wild."
“Oh! That’s cool,” He said, craning his neck at the sky. “What do you see now?”
