"Do you not care? I'm trying to make things better for you, Ellis!"

"Well you can't!" he replied, hiding his face in Korou's fur again.

"Why can't I?! I'll be king in just a few weeks!"

"Because…Gods, Lloyd! It's not going to work."

"Why shouldn't it?" Lloyd huffed.

"Because…" he shook his head. "Just…whatever."

Lloyd sighed softly and looked away. "I just… wanna make things better for you…"

He shrugged his shoulders. "I…"

"I don't wanna see you miserable all the time…"

"I'm not miserable."

"But you've been dealing with this shit all your life! I don't want you to have to live like that!"

"So what?! It's not like I'm ever going to find anyone that would want to marry me anyways, and I'm gay and sterile, so children were never going to be part of the equation!" he snapped, hiding his face again. "And I was never going to be able to get a higher job than this; I only barely finished high school."

"So, you deserve better! Who the hell cares if you're gay? I'm supposed to be marrying a man, so it's not like I'm going to be having children either!"

"My point is that none of the laws that are in place for people like me actually affect me!" he replied, still hiding his face. "So it doesn't matter, and you should focus on things that actually do matter!"

Lloyd sighed shakily. "I just… I want to fix it anyways. I hate seeing people just… I don't know… I want things to be better for everyone."

He shrugged, arms still hugged around Korou. "I don't…you should focus on things that matter."

"It matters to me, Ellis."

He shrugged again, shaking his head slightly.

Lloyd sighed and was quiet for a few seconds. "I just… want people to be happy…"

"Well, you can't make everyone happy."

Lloyd drew his knees up to his chest and hugged them tightly. "…I know that."

Ellis stayed pressed into Korou.

"I-I just… want to make as many people happy as I can. Even if… even if I can't…"

"I'm sorry." Ellis said quietly. "I-I didn't mean…I just…the truth is that people like me, we don't matter. We slip through the cracks and get forgotten, so…" he shook his head a little bit.

"You matter to me, Ellis…" Lloyd whispered.
