“Okay. I’m sorry about that, I really am. I just-“ Damien sighed softly. “Look, I can try to get you out of here, okay? I can try to get you back to my place. But you need to promise you’ll try to get better.”
“Okay. I’m sorry about that, I really am. I just-“ Damien sighed softly. “Look, I can try to get you out of here, okay? I can try to get you back to my place. But you need to promise you’ll try to get better.”
"I'll… I'll try my best, Damien… I'll try…" Rowan rubbed at his teary eyes and drew in a few quick, shaky breaths.
(i'm sorry for that small gap! it may happen more, as i find myself needing to take time away from social media, etc- i'm not abandoning this, don't worry, i just need to take a break sometimes!)
"Yeah. Thanks." Damien ruffled Rowan's hair, giving him a tiny smile. "When do you want me to talk to the desk lady? About getting you out?"
(Np <33)
"Whenever you want to, I guess… it's not really up to me." Rowan drew in a wavering breath and rubbed at his eyes again.
"Yeah, alright." It sorta is. Damien stuck his hands in his pockets, rocking back and forth on his heels.
"We can… we can go now, if you want… or you can go, I don't have to be there, I guess…" Rowan said softly.
"Look- it's up to you, Ro, ultimately- but I think the sooner the better. Clearly this isn't doing- doing a- uh- a whole lot of good. For you." Damien responded, tugging at his shirt collar.
Rowan nodded and was silent for a few seconds. "Um… it… it should probably happen now, then… do you want to go alone or should I go with you?"
"I can go by myself." Damien took a breath. He couldn't help but think this was a bad idea- Rowan didn't seem to understand that Damien couldn't baby him forever. "I'll be right back."
Rowan nodded and fidgeted nervously in his seat while he waited for Damien to return. He had considered that one day, Damien would have to leave him alone, but he didn't like thinking about that. So he didn't.
Damien stood at the reception desk, waiting for the receptionist to notice him. He absentmindedly chewed on the silicone pendant around his neck, shifting from foot to foot.
She looked up after a minute and noticed him. "Sorry for the wait! What can I do for you, sir?" She asked.
"Uh- hey, yeah, uh- look- my friend? Rowan Griffin? I was wondering if I could- uh- I could-d.." Damien trailed off before his stuttering got worse, chewing on his necklace. "Uh- yeah, so I was wondering if I could check him out..? If that's okay?"
"Sure! You'll just have to do this paperwork. Is that okay?" She started pulling out a stack of papers for Damien to do.
Damien rolled the string of his necklace between his fingers. "Uh- yeah- it is. Yeah. What are all the forms?"
"Just legal stuff. Don't worry about it." She smiled softly and handed the stack to Damien. "You can bring those back to me when they're all filled out."
Damien flipped his fingers through the forms. "Uh.. yeah. Okay. I'll… be back in a few minutes." Damien wandered off, back to Rowan, barely looking up from the seemingly endless stack of paper.
"Do you want me to help you?" Rowan asked, still fidgeting nervously as he watched Damien filling out the paperwork.
"Nah, Ro, I got it. Thanks, though." Damien responded, not looking up. Frankly, if he had someone else trying to "help" him right now, he'd probably fly off the handle.
Rowan nodded and fell silent, staring blankly at the table while he continued his anxious fidgeting. He really didn't like being here.
It took him more time than he'd like to admit, maybe 10 minutes or so, but he had finally gotten the papers signed. Mostly. Damien sorted through, pulling out the ones that needed Rowan's signature as well and pushing them (along with the pen) towards him. "Sign where there's space, man."
Rowan snapped out of his daze and took a few seconds to realize what was being asked of him before nodding and picking up the pen. He quickly signed the papers and handed them back to Damien.
"Thanks." Damien slid the papers back onto the stack, getting up to take them back to the desk lady. He came up to her desk, holding the forms in plain view. "I- uh, I got these filled out? Like you asked."
"Wonderful!" She put them somewhere in her desk and started typing something quickly into her computer. "Alright! You're all set! Have a nice day!" She grinned and waved.
"Uh- yeah. Thanks. You too." He waved back, smaller than hers, going back to Rowan. "We can go now. I got all that bureaucratic shit done."
