King stepped in and ran a hand through his hair. He was wishing now that he had been bothered to put his hair into some type of ponytail, but no he let it hang free. He made his way up to the counter, brushed off his bandaged hand with some lame excuse to his coworker. Letting out a sigh he took his coffee, his free coffee, and made his way to one of the corner tables. He was silently eyeing everyone there, praying to whatever God was out there no one would come bother him. His eyes caught on a pair of girls that had been talking and seemed to stop for a moment. He shrugged it off and let out a sigh. The day had not been going as well as he would have hoped with the events of this morning followed by an encounter with Mercy. He pulled out his laptop, reading glasses, and textbook before getting started on schoolwork. Why was he going to law school again?
She turned and eyed him with a challenging look in her eyes, as if someone had dared her to go talk to him.
She stood confidently and stepped over to the man with a smile, sliding into the chair in front of him.
“Hey~” she says with a smile “what’s someone as attractive as you doing alone at a coffee shop hm?” She asked, raising an eyebrow as she swung her legs under the table.
She recognized those eyes for a split second before never minding it, not thinking about it much.
(Sorry its kinda short)
King wanted to die the moment the girl came over. He looked her in the eyes and thought he recognized them for a second, but shook it off as just having those type of familiar eyes. Some people said he had that kind of eyes himself. Then the girl spoke and he was really regretting his choice of coming to the coffee shop today. He pulled his glasses off and let out a long sigh before gesturing to the textbook and laptop in front of him with his good hand, "What do you think?"
(That's fine.)
She raised her eyebrows a little before letting out a small laugh, rather cute if you didnt know she was a mass murderer, one of the merciless ones out there.
“Grumpy arent we?” She smiled “you still a student?” She guessed, not thinking about whether he would be studying for law school. Though it wasn't normally something you would assume someone was doing at a coffee shop. At least it wasn't the first thing that came to mind.
Her sister was a few tables away from them, watching with a muffled laugh, covering her smile.
“She really is something huh” Kaiya mumbled to herself through a silent laugh.
"Yes, I'm still a student," King sighed putting his glasses back on. She wasn't going to be leaving anytime soon and he really didn't want to go back to the apartment. Besides he needed to finish his coffee. He thought for a moment thinking deliberately to his next words to her, "And what about you? Why are you here?"
“Oh I’m visiting my sister here. But she ran into an old friend and started talking to him” she lied, quickly making a realistic illusion of a guy sitting where she was and talking to her.
“I have nothing better to do and you seemed cool” she shrugged, tucking a piece of pink hair behind her ear
"Sure," King nodded glancing to see that the other girl was, in fact, talking to someone else. He tugged at his hair and took a sip of his coffee. He looked back at the girl sitting in front of him, "So if I seem 'cool' will you tell me your name?"
She sighed "Aria. That's all you need to know. But you can call me Ari if you want. That's what my friends call me" she says leaning forward. "what about you? " she leaned on her palm as she looked at the man. He looked like generally didn't want to be here. But she was stubborn and wasn't going to leave soon
“King,” he responded short, blunt, and to the point. He wasn’t going to tell her his last name or what his ‘friends’ called him. All she would get was his first name. He realized at this points that while this woman was here he was getting nothing done and closed his computer with his uninjured hand. He then shoved his books back into his bag and gave this woman however much care and attention he could muster at the moment.
"oh, I was about to ask you what you were studying for" she pouted, sticking out her bottom lip with a dramatic sigh. She was a little too much to handle. Even she knew that
King wanted to leave so badly, but he was raised with manners. So he didn’t leave the drama queen to her own devices. He leaned back in his chair and took a sip of his coffee, “If you must know, I am studying law.”
She leaned forward in awe "really?! Impressive!" she says genuinely enthusiastic. "what are you planning on being, a hero? " she joked, as all heroes of this city had to study law. Though to her she figured he was just going to be a lawyer. But she liked a joke or two.
“Hah.” King let out a laugh. He was a little nervous at the mention of heroes. While technically he was a hero, the coty only gave him permission because he was a prodigy of sorts. The only requirements he had to meet was not telling anyone about him being a hero and then graduate law school. In his mind both we’re equally as difficult, “No way. I have no abilities whatsoever. I’m just trying to become a lawyer.”
She raised an eyebrow to suspicion when he mentioned having no abilities whatsoever. But she shrugged it off. "why a lawyer Huh? You don't seem like someone who would do it for the money"
"I want to be able to help people," King shrugged as if that much was obvious. He ran another hand through his hair sipping the coffee with his bandaged hand, "And practicing law is my way of doing it."
“Hm, how interesting.” She says looking around the shop. “Say, what happened to your hand?” She tilted her head to the side like an innocent little puppy, not putting two and two together.
"Accidently burned it while trying to make coffee in my apartment," King lied smoothly. He almost pained him that he was so good at lying off his injuries to anyone who asked, along with keeping it consistent, "I still feel stupid for doing it."
Her eyebrows raised. “Hm, when?” She asked eyeing his coffee on the table. If he had already made coffee in his apartment, then why did he have coffee here? Why go out of his way to pay for new coffee when he already had some at home?
Though she came up with a few good excuses that he could use. Maybe he spilled it, gave up and came here to buy the coffee instead of having to deal with making it himself. Maybe he just liked this coffee more or he liked coffee so much that he wanted even more.
She shrugged it off, simply using that as a conversation starter. She was thinking too much about this. A burn on her own wrist and arm covered by a hoodie. It stung, but her sister had soothed the burning a little bit.
"Just before I came here," King responded completely understanding of her suspicion. He took a sip of the coffee and put it back down on the table. The lie worked to his needs, but now he needed to come up with something that made this more understanding to this rando chick, "I spilled the whole damn thing and rather than try to make another batch I decided I would just buy some from here. A lot less of a risk to my health than making more."
She nodded with a content smile as she went onto the next subject.
“I saw you didnt pay for the coffee when you came in. You work here?” She says leaning on the palm of her hand, he vibrant green eyes hooked on his as if she were challenging him. Though she said nothing to hint at that.
King raised his eyebrow. Why did her eyes look like she was challenging him? It made no sense to him, he had never met Aria before today. Unless he had, but that wasn't possible no matter how familiar this girl looked, "Yeah, I do work here. Another reason why I came here for coffee.
“Oh well that explains it.” She laughed a little. “How long have you been working here?” Aria asked casually. Shes come here regularly, never seeing him. Not even once. How odd.
Though she must have been pretty busy. She never gave the workers much attention.
"A couple of months or so," King responded thinking back. It really had only been a couple of months since he had been thrown into the world of heroes and all the shit that came with it. He looked over at Aria, "I work weird shifts so you might not have seen me here before."
She listened as she bit the inside of her lip. "what times? I would love to come here and see you again" she winked at him with a flirtatious smirk
King resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Of course, she would ask that, just of course. He wasn't going to be rude, but he wasn't going to flirt back either, "First shift, so from open to around 10 am most of the time. Otherwise, I pick them up when I can."
