"That makes sense." Matthew set his hand on Rowan's head, running his fingers through the unconscious man's hair.
"And I am glad that you did, if it meant Rowan was able to grow into the man he is.."
"That makes sense." Matthew set his hand on Rowan's head, running his fingers through the unconscious man's hair.
"And I am glad that you did, if it meant Rowan was able to grow into the man he is.."
"Right. If his father stuck around, he probably would've been abused more…" Rowan's mother sighed softly.
"I'm glad he wasn't… and I'm sorry you had to go through what you did." Matthew looked up to Rowan's mother.
"It's alright. I like to think I'm stronger now because of it." She smiled gently up at Matthew.
Matthew smiled back, nodding.
"Okay, then…"
"We should probably go to sleep soon so we've got enough energy for tomorrow."
"Yes, that sounds good… do you want something to eat before hand?" Matthew reached for the bag, opening it.
"Sure. Do you need help cooking anything?" She asked. "Or does it not need to be cooked?"
"No, it's just some bread and dried meat, ma'am." Matthew offered a smile, handing the food over.
"Alright, thank you, then. Should we wake Rowan so he can eat?" She asked as she took a bite of bread.
"Mm… yeah, he needs to." Matthew reached back to Rowan, gently shaking the man's shoulders.
"Rowan," he said softly.
Rowan whined softly as he was shaken, taking a couple of minutes to stir and wake up. "Mmm…"
"Hey," Matthew said gently, helping Rowan up. "Time for dinner, do you think you can stomach some food?"
"Mmm… yeah… I-I guess I've been out for the whole day then, huh?" Rowan sighed softly and his mother gently rubbed his back to reassure him.
Matthew nodded a bit, moving to place his hand on Rowan's.
"Here," he said softly, offering some bread.
Rowan sighed and drew his knees up to his chest as he ate the bread. "It's alright, Rowan. You need your rest." His mother said softly.
"You really do," Matthew agreed. He moved closer, gently wrapping one arm around Rowan.
Rowan huddled a bit closer to Matthew, still not seeming particularly happy. "Yeah, yeah… I gotta do stuff too, though…"
"Mhm…" Matthew nodded. "We've had an idea about that. What if you tried to figure out some drinks for your shop? I could find the edible plants nearby, and we could work together on it."
"Oh… yeah, sure. I guess I can do that." Rowan adjusted his grip on the bread, his gaze looking a bit dull.
Matthew couldn't help the gentle frown of concern on his face, moving closer to Rowan and hugging him.
Rowan rested his head on Matthew's shoulder and sighed. "Are you alright, Rowan?" "Yeah, I'm fine…"
Matthew reached his hand up to rest on Rowan's head, gently playing with his hair.
"Okay, then…" He was still worried, but he didn't push, just hugging Rowan close.
Rowan leaned into Matthew's hand a bit and closed his eyes, still idly eating his bread. "What time is it?"
"It's…" Matthew looked up, thinking a moment. "almost sundown, around nine."
