"Yeah, maybe. I'm not sure he knows how to make much other than coffee, though, and I don't think you guys have coffee here."
"Yeah, maybe. I'm not sure he knows how to make much other than coffee, though, and I don't think you guys have coffee here."
"Well, I'm sure I could help him figure something out," Matthew pointed out. "So he could practice making different drinks to distract himself, and to help with the shop he wants to open."
She nodded a bit. "Mhmm. I'm sure you know what plants and stuff around here are edible. Maybe you even already make some into drinks."
"Some, yeah," Matthew agreed. "And it'll be fun to see what Rowan can come up with."
She nodded again. "Yeah. He's very creative, so I'm sure he can figure something out."
"Mm, I can agree on that. Hopefully it will distract him enough, too. I don't want him to feel useless…" Matthew let out a soft sigh.
"Right. He'll probably be okay once he's able to walk for long distances again. He always went on a run every morning too, so I'm sure he hates not being able to move around."
"Ah…" Matthew looked down at Rowan, reaching out to gently run his fingers through the man's hair. "I'm sorry he has to go through this…"
"I'm sure he'll get through it. He's gotten through worse in the past…" Rowan's mother sighed softly.
"Okay…" Matthew let out a breath. "Hopefully he won't have to go through anymore, though."
She nodded again. "Yeah. Hopefully our lives will get better here."
"Mm…" Matthew smiled some, but it didn't last long. "Oh, shit- um, so, ah-" Matthew let out a long breath.
"I have no idea how the elders are going to react to Rowan returning and you coming along as well."
"Hm… I take it that it isn't normal for humans to pop up here?" She asked, resting her head on one hand.
"Not at all," Matthew admitted. "Rowan was the first I've ever seen, or the elders either."
"Interesting. I guess that'll be a fun conversation then, hmm? I'm sure we'll have to read up on the laws here."
"Mhm, it will be. The law is usually just what we think collectively makes the most sense, or what the elders say." Matthew let out a breath.
"Hm. I guess that makes sense." She shrugged a bit. "We have very specific laws decided by our government."
"Really? Sounds really restrictive," Matthew noted. "Do humans really need that?"
"Yeah. We've got a lot of people who break the laws too." She sighed softly.
Matthew let out a sigh.
"Oh…" He shook his head some.
"Humans are very corrupt. It's sort of in our nature. Thankfully, there are still some good people, but… there's a lot of bad people too."
"Mm… it might be best not to tell the elders about that," Matthew noted. "They might not let you stay."
"Right, yeah… I mean, Rowan and I aren't going to do anything. I like to think we're some of the good ones."
"From what I've seen, I think so too." Matthew offered a smile, moving a bit closer to Rowan.
She nodded and sighed, smiling weakly as well. "His father was a bad person, though. That's why I had to kick him out."
