Vex nodded and smiled.
"Alright, a couple more customers came in, so I'm gonna go see to them. Call me up if you need anything, okay?"
Tohru smiled at Davin a bit.
"Sorry if it seemed like he was prying too much. Hope I at least talked enough to fill in some of the gaps."
Davin laughed a little. "It's alright. At least you caught on to my cover story." He touched the edge of his hood with a soft little smile.
"Ah, well, it took me a moment, but I just decided it was best to agree with whatever you said until I figured it out," Tohru replied, "Hopefully it'll get a little busier soon, and they'll leave us alone for the most part. But I suppose my shift will already have started by then. Like I said, though, you can stick around if you want."
Davin nodded. "Right, of course. I might stick around for a bit before I head home, if that's alright? But I understand if you'd rather I not stick around." he smiled lightly.
"Yeah, sure!" Tohru replied, "Do whatever you want. It doesn't matter that much to me one way or another."
He took a sip of his drink, looking at Tohru. "Alright then. Sounds good." he agreed in an easy tone, adjusting his hood for a moment.
After a little bit, Tohru got up from the bar.
"Anyway, my shift is about to start. I'm gonna head to the back, clock in, and get my apron on. See you in a few."
He smiled slightly, giving Davin a little wave as he went through the double doors back into the employees only area.
Davin waved back, turning to look around as more people started to filter into the bar. He didn't speak, just watched the different people milling around, their conversations all among each other.
Tohru came back and slipped behind the bar, going up to serve a couple of patrons who had just entered. After collecting their orders, he went back to Davin, leaning over the counter in front of him.
"Just let me know if you need anything. I'll get it for you."
Davin looked up, nodding a little. "Alright, will do." he replied, taking another sip of his drink. He didn't want to drink too much and then have Tohru have to escort him home.
Tohru came back out, tying the strap on his apron into place and meeting Kira behind the bar.
"Hey, who do you guys need me to tend to?"
"Vex is leaving. Take his half of the bar, and we'll take turns on the customers at the bar."
"He's leaving? Is tonight not as busy?"
"It's going to be kind of busy. Just the usual nighttime crowd. But nothing we can't handle. He's been working his ass off this week, and he said he's got a massive headache, so I just sent him on his way. If it gets rough, um… we'll figure it out."
Vex passed by the bar on the way out. "See you guys tomorrow. And it was nice to meet you finally!" he called to Davin.
Davin smiled, waving. "It was nice to meet you too!" he called back.
Tohru let out a relieved sigh and went to the end of the bar to take the orders of a couple of patrons.
He went back to make the drinks, and stopped in front of Davin.
"How are you doing over here?"
"I'm fine." He replied. "Thanks, though." He smiled over at Tohru, calm and easy.
"Alright, great," Tohru said, smiling back.
Yet, secretly he was really relieved that Davin hadn't picked up on the "finally" part of what Vex was saying. Because that would insinuate that Tohru had been talking about Davin, which would be weird, right? They were just roommates, and Davin shouldn't come up except in passing conversation. Even though it was definitely on his coworkers for prying, Davin didn't know that part.
Tohru served the drinks he had just made to the two customers and went out from behind the bar to go check on other customers.
Davin had caught the finally, but let it go, figuring it didn't really matter all that much. He took another sip of his drink, closing his eyes for a moment.
Tohru kept at work, trying to keep distracted from Davin, but it was hard to do, especially when he was sitting right there. He could almost feel Kira's eyes on him, judging his every move.
Davin eventually finished up his drink, but didn't request a new one, not wanting to have too much to drink and then have to be escorted home. That would be embarrassing for both himself and Tohru.
Tohru went behind the bar again to make some more drinks. He chatted with some of the customers there, occasionally glancing over to Davin.
Davin was quiet, just people-watching from his spot, quiet and content to just sit like this.
Tohru went back to serve the drinks to the waiting customers when he heard a bit of commotion from Kira's side. He rushed over once he had unloaded the drinks.
"Hey, hey, is there a problem?" He asked, holding his tray to the side.
Kira scowled and walked by Tohru, murmuring in his ear, "Those scumbags are harassing me."
"Gotcha. Hey! Fuckwads! This lady over here is a person, not your toy. Cut it out, or you'll have to leave."
One of the guys scoffed. "You'd have to make us."
With a scowl, Tohru leaned forwards over the table. "I can do that, if that's what you want. Now fuck off or get out."
Davin watched what was going on, eyes flickering over the group quietly. They seemed like exactly the sort of assholes to do that to a woman.
Tohru leaned back and followed Kira to the back of the bar, where she took a deep breath and went to cleaning glasses.
"Swap out that table with one of mine," Tohru insisted, "I'll try to get them out before they cause more problems, but you shouldn't have to deal with it. They start a fight, it's gonna be with me."
Kira laughed softly.
"You really need to stop playing hero. We work at a bar, for the gods' sakes!"
Davin shifted, stretching out his legs, squirming for a moment when he sat on his tail. He always ended up tucking it in his pants to keep it out of the way. This, however, led to the unfortunate tendency to sit on it, which hurt like hell.
Tohru shrugged.
"It's those bounty hunter tendencies, Kira," he replied, "Can't take it out of me."
He paced back over to Davin.
"Hey, can I get you anything else? Even if it's just water or something to eat?"
