“Yeah, of course. Thank you,” Tohru said, starting to get out what he needed to make their meal.
“Yeah, of course. Thank you,” Tohru said, starting to get out what he needed to make their meal.
Davin nodded a little bit. "Yeah. I'm going to contact a few more places about a job." He replied.
“Oh, okay. Good luck. What kinds of places are these?” Tohru asked as he grabbed a couple of things from the pantry and fridge.
He cleared off what little was sitting on the counter and made room so he could cut up vegetables.
Davin shrugged. "I don't know. Places with jobs?" he laughed a little bit, pulling out his device and pulling up some job lists.
Tohru laughed. “Alright, alright. I meant more if you were looking at any specific types of jobs, or if you’re just grabbing at whatever you could find,” he clarified.
Tohru picked up the knife and began chopping, shifting his focus more on that than his interaction with Davin.
"Just whatever I can find, basically." he replied, humming for just a moment as he got to work finding jobs.
“Understandable,” Tohru replied, “I tried applying for stuff I’d be better at, but if I get that bartender job immediately, there’s not much point in waiting around for a better job that might not even come.”
"Yeah." he replied, sending in applications for more jobs that he hadn't applied for before.
Tohru turned on the stove and placed down a couple of different pans. In one, he dumped the chopped vegetables, and in another, he put some chicken. In a third pot, he put some water to boil.
Davin eventually came into the kitchen. "You want any help in here?" he asked, raising his eyebrows a little bit.
“If you’re not busy, an extra pair of hands would be helpful,” Tohru admitted.
He was bouncing back and forth between the different things he had cooking.
"Alright, great. What do you want me to do?" he asked, washing his hands and looking over at Tohru.
"Just help me saute these vegetables?" Tohru replied, setting aside the utensil he was using to stir them in the pot so Davin could take it.
"I need to get the seasoning out too, if you'll just give me a moment…"
He nodded. "Of course." He replied, taking the utensil and getting to work. He hummed quietly, tail twitching just a little bit.
“Thanks,” Tohru replied.
He grabbed salt, pepper, and a few other spices, then added what he needed to each pan, while Davin was stirring.
"Of course." He replied, continuing to stir quietly, glad to have something to do with his hands.
“Do you cook much?” Tohru asked, shifting back over to his pan, “Just curious, is all.”
"No, I don't." he replied with a laugh. "Usually I just…you know, buy ready-made meals."
"I gotcha. I mean, I kind of alternate between the two. I'd cook all the time if I could, but it's more work for sure. It kind of helps me unwind, though," Tohru said, "Honestly, that's one of the few things that my parents tried to drill into my head that I didn't try to shake off. Maybe the only thing."
"Oh, yeah. That makes sense. I just…never really learned, and then I never really had an interest in it. Sometimes I wish I would have, though. I dunno." he sighed faintly.
"I mean, the basics aren't hard at all. I can always teach you a thing or two, if you ever want me to," Tohru offered, "I don't know… I've always kind of liked it, and it's a useful skill to have."
He looked at Tohru. "You… really? You'd be willing to teach me?" He asked, raising his eyebrows curiously. "You sure?"
“It’s really no problem at all,” Tohru replied, “Especially since I planned to cook for us a good bit. You can join me while I’m making meals, because honestly the best way to learn it is by doing it.”
Davin nodded. "Alright." he replied, smiling softly. "I…do you think at some point we could try…making a Kaythani meal of some sort?" he blinked, realizing that this might be something that was a little presumptive to ask, then hurriedly added, "I-I mean, only if you're okay with it. You're not…familiar with them and I guess it's probably too much to ask, I'm sorry."
“Actually, that sounds like fun,” Tohru replied, “Of course, I’ll have to learn a bit more about Kaythani food first, but I’m more than happy to. If it’s easy enough, we can add a few meals to our regular rotation for dinner, too.”
He was smiling at the thought. Besides, maybe it would help Davin feel a little more relaxed and at home.
