"He won't…will he?" Nick replied, eyes widening. "I can protect myself. My father will defend me, probably."
"He won't…will he?" Nick replied, eyes widening. "I can protect myself. My father will defend me, probably."
Cas shrugged. "I-I dunno, honestly… He definitely won't be happy, especially with either of us, to find me gone again… he's crazy; I have no clue what he'll do for sure."
"Well, I can defend myself, and I'll do everything I can to keep you safe too," Nick said with more confidence than he felt.
"Thanks, love…" Cas glanced up tiredly when Jane reentered the room. He figured she was going to try and make him feel guilty somehow, which made him nervous.
Jane came in with a tray of food. "Eat up!" she said to Cas, trying not to look as worried as she felt. She would definitely be talking to Nick about this later. She set the tray of food next to Cas.
"Mmm…" Cas huddled a little closer to Nick, fighting the strong urge to stand up and throw this food out the window as well. His stomach rumbled, but he couldn't pluck up the will to eat.
"Cas, you're going to eat something, right?" Nick asked nervously. "Even a bite would help. Those rolls look delicious…"
"I-I dunno… my brain's being very confusing…" Cas whispered, hugging his stomach tightly and screwing his eyes shut.
"If you don't want to eat, you don't have to," Nick said, doing his best to keep his voice neutral. "But you need to something soon, if even a tiny bit. You can't continue not eating forever."
"I know, I know… I'll starve and stuff…" Cas sighed, laying his head back on Nick's chest. "I'm sorry… I-I promise I'll try…"
“Okay, please try,” Nick added, holding him. “I really don’t want you to die.” He meant the last part to be light, but he couldn’t help tears from forming in the corners of his eyes.
Cas nodded. "I… c-could you grab it? I don't think I can reach it…" He said weakly, glancing over his shoulder at the food.
“Yeah,” Nick said, taking a small roll. He handed it to Cas, hoping that he would be able to stomach it.
Cas hesitated before taking a tentative bite of the roll. His stomach growled angrily as soon as the small morsel reached it, and Cas began to hold his breath.
“Can you hold it down?” Jane asked, staring at Cas.
“Jane!” Nick hissed, glaring at her.
Cas shrugged, hugging his stomach tightly. He honestly did feel rather queasy already, which wasn't a good sign.
“Is there anything that I can do to help?” Nick asked, furrowing his brows as he looked at Cas.
"I-I dunno, love…" Cas said weakly. "Might be wise to drag my sorry ass over to the bathroom in case I do throw up…"
“Okay, you do that, then,” Nick responded. “Can you walk?”
Cas shrugged again. He started trembling like before, and seemed to have little to no interest in even opening his eyes.
Nick, worried, picked him up and set him gently down on the bathroom floor. He sat next to Cas.
“I’m gonna go,” Jane said, looking worried but also slightly annoyed as she left.
"Bye, Jane… nice seeing you…" Cas said softly, leaning against Nick for support and comfort. "I'm sorry again, love…"
“You don’t have to apologize,” Nick replied, waving him off wearily. His back and hands both hurt, but it was worth it because Cas was there.
Cas opened his eyes to take in Nick. He honestly couldn't believe that Nick was willing to stick with him through all of this. "Y-You won't leave me, right?" He asked weakly.
Nick blinked, surprised at the question. “Never,” he responded, looking Cas in the eyes. “You can’t get rid of me that easily.”
