"I guess so, but… I dunno…" He shrugged again and stared at the ground. "I feel like I should be able to go on and not be a baby about it…"
"I guess so, but… I dunno…" He shrugged again and stared at the ground. "I feel like I should be able to go on and not be a baby about it…"
“You’re not being a baby,” Nick insisted. “Needing to rest or stop or whatever because you’re hurt isn’t being a baby, it’s being a person.” He took Cas’s hand.
Cas held tightly to Nick's hand, sighing. "I just don't want to lose your respect…" He whispered, his voice wavering a bit.
“You could never do that,” Nick assured him softly. “Doing what’s best for you would never make me lose respect for you. I’ll always be there for you.”
"I-I mean, I'm wearing girls' clothes and I can't even ride a horse properly…" Cas drew his knees up to his chest, but never let go of Nick's hand. "That's why I wanted to ride the stallion. It's a… a 'masculine' horse, I guess…"
“That doesn’t change my opinion of you,” Nick responded. “Not everyone is good at everything. And so what if you’re wearing girls’ clothes? You still look incredibly handsome.”
"I just feel stupid…" Cas moved a little closer to Nick, resting his head back on the other's shoulder.
“I understand,” he said, putting an arm around Cas. “But I don’t think any less of you.”
"You probably should. I really don't deserve your respect." He sighed, looking up at the nearby horses.
“Why do you say that?” Nick asked gently, clearly puzzled. He didn’t understand why Cas would say something like that, since Nick thought Cas was a great person.
"I can't even take care of myself, like, at all… I have to come crying to you for help because I'm too big of a coward to do it myself…"
"You're not a coward," Nick said softly. "You don't need to suffer through everything on your own. You have nothing to prove."
Cas bit his lip, looking away again. "B-But I do, though… I'm the prince. The only prince in my kingdom. I'm expected to have some problem solving abilities, but it's kinda hard when the king is my problem."
"We'll get through this," Nick reassured, hoping that by saying it that would make it true. He wouldn't know what to do otherwise.
He shrugged. "Maybe we will, maybe we won't. Maybe we'll die before we can, who the hell knows?"
Nick sighed. “Whatever happens, I’ll just remember all of the moments with you and that I love you.”
"I love you too…" Cas shuffled closer to Nick, tucking himself under his arm.
Nick smiled. "No matter what happens, I'll do everything I can to make sure we both make it out alive."
"Thanks, Nick. Glad you care." Cas kissed his cheek before moving his head back down to his shoulder.
"Of course I care," he replied, glancing at Cas. "I care so much. By the way, are you feeling any better?"
"Eh, not much. I'm okayish now, but I can tell I'll be sore tomorrow."
“At least it’s only temporary, right? And if you need anything I can help,” he said, trying at optimism again. “Do you think you can go back or do you want to rest for a bit more?”
"Um… I might… we can sit here a bit longer, I guess…" Cas fidgeted with his hands, not meeting Nick's eyes.
“Okay, that’s fine,” Nick replied. “Is something wrong?”
"N-No, just still feeling dumb…" He shrugged, forcing himself to drop his hands.
