Nick sighed. “Okay, if we go slowly.” He helped Cas get on his horse and mounted his own.
Nick sighed. “Okay, if we go slowly.” He helped Cas get on his horse and mounted his own.
Cas took a deep breath and picked up his reins, carefully getting his horse to walk again. He relaxed when it obeyed.
Nick stayed close to Cas on his horse, going deliberately slowly. “How badly does it hurt?”
"Um… I'm more jittery now than anything. I'm sure I'll hurt more tomorrow." Cas adjusted his grip on the reins.
“If you need anything, I can try to help,” Nick promised earnestly, a slightly worried smile on his face as he glanced at Cas.
"I'm okay, Nick. Don't worry about me." He smiled weakly, trying to ignore his already aching back.
“Are you sure? You don’t sound okay…” Nick replied worriedly.
He nodded and looked away, not sure how well Nick could read his expressions. "I'm fine."
Nick hesitated, gnawing on his lip. “If you’re sure…” He figured that Cas was probably just saying that, and would definitely continue to offer him help.
"I'm sure." Cas held his breath unless it was absolutely necessary to breathe, wondering how long they'd been out here.
“Do you want to go just sit down and stuff for a bit?” Nick suggested, trying to get Cas to rest.
"N-No, we can stay out a little longer…" Cas's vision was shifting in and out of focus, and he was finding it difficult to concentrate.
“Well I think we should rest,” Nick commented. “I’m tired and I need to sit down.” The last part was a lie, but Nick hoped it would get Cas to along with it since he clearly wasn’t feeling well.
"Okay…" Cas reluctantly stopped the horse and looked down at the ground, not entirely sure how he'd get down without hurting himself.
Nick dismounted and walked over to Cas to help him down, smiling at him to hopefully get the other boy to let him help.
Cas hesitated before allowing Nick to help him, stumbling and clinging tightly to Nick for stability when he hit the ground.
Nick was relieved that the other boy accepted his help, sitting down ungracefully out of the way of the horses.
Cas sat beside him, laying his head on the other's shoulder and closing his eyes to try and get his headache to go away.
Nick gently laid his head on top of Cas’s. “Are you feeling any better?” he asked quietly.
He shrugged a bit. "M'head kinda hurts…"
“Oh,” Nick moved his head so that it wasn’t resting on Cas’s. “You seem better than earlier,” he added, positive as ever.
"I guess so. I mean… um… I was always feeling fine?" He lied weakly.
“We both know that isn’t true,” he responded gently. “You were thrown off of a horse. Anyone would be injured.”
Cas sighed, looking away. "I just did something dumb, is all… I don't blame the horse."
“Okay, but you’re still entitled to take it easy if you’re in pain, which you clearly are,” Nick added, trying to be helpful.
