I've only seen this once and I'm already sick of it but
Gay character is gay for plot and then is suddenly….not gay anymore. Out of the blue. Not bi or anything, just suddenly straight as heck
What??????? I don't understand. she better have a good explanation for this but I doubt she will

@Kinarymo

That one's valid only if said character is pretending to be gay for some weird reason or mission or whatev

But they better have a solid explanation for that. You can't "cure" the gayness (unless they had a brain transplant or sum shit)

@Pickles group

They didn't have them go to a conversion camp or ANYTHING even though the parents wanted her to. She just met a boy and was like oh haha guess I don't like girls after all teehee
Like bish no what happened?? I'm confused??

@Pickles group

update: she's showed some concern and no longer seems to think she's straight she's just …….. I cannot tell you enough to not read this series

@ninja_violinist

I'm super sick of books with amazing concepts that don't focus on said concepts.
Like, I just read a book that's a modern Christmas Carol type thing where the MC is the Ghost of Christmas Past, but instead of focusing on that we focus on a bland instalove romance and the boring technical aspects of the job, like the tech that helps her see the memories.

Ok but this is a real issue that I've seen so. much. where the Super Cool Concept is upstaged by a boring, unnecessary and unnecessarily convoluted love story.
Like, I just tried to give an example and the struggle want coming up with them but deciding which one to talk about. I could easily name 5 series off the top of my head who are guilty of that and I'm so sick of it

@Kinarymo

(okay, i did a quick google search of that series and im just "huh??". There are a few elements that are worth noting but like, it feels like a vampire novel mixed with a bad fanfiction. Isn't the era of the vampire novels dead tho??)

@Pickles group

(that's exactly what it is and it just gets worse and worse)
And another thing, inappropriate horny adults that act like teenagers because what the actual fuck this is not legal get away from her you are more than twice her age she is a minor you are dating her mother you fucking creep
And this has happened more than once in the same series

@vidari-is-tired-in-advance group

That sounds absolutely gross and disgusting! On that same note, super old supernatural creatures dating humans who are minors. It’s more than a little manipulative and creepy and I wish people would stop doing it.

All of this yes

(Ooh guilty. But I promise it’s a bit better than that. He’s older than her, but she’s more mature. (He’s emotionally and physically sixteen.) And she becomes immortal in a manner. Is it too much?)

That's a trope I killed quickly in my writing. Simply because I got tired of writing teenagers so I aged all my characters up.

I mean if there’s a supernatural justification for his mental age being that of a teenager it should work! I’m talking more about when the supernatural character is so much more experienced and mature that it feels like they are using the human.

He’s a god. He has a grimdark mentality because the world is rough (especially for him) but a human year in maturity = ~ 23.5 So he’s dealing with hormones and angst.

When it wasn't focusing on the bland love story, it was focusing on the MC having a pity party for herself and the dull technical aspects of the story, it honestly could have been a story told without a ghost and just been a nonprofit group that does some stalking with all of the emphasis they put on the supernatural elements (aka none)
