Something to consider is how our modern view places a lens over male affection.

Good point, cause bros traditionally aren’t supposed to be affectionate towards other bros and that can really put a damper on the perception of male relationships, but it’s also pretty important to highlight stuff like downplaying the love between two men and trying to sweep it under the rug

Yeah that's my deal. One of the few I really care about.

I can definitely relate to that!

Also just the whole "oooh magic is outlawed and/or gone but somehow our MC has it in spades, and so does the supporting cast". Like, what's wrong with just having normal humans?

You a dude?

A chick who’s passionate about the portrayal of all types of relationships in all types of stories. I just think representation is really important for those who may see themselves as somehow bad or wrong because of what is or isn’t prominent in media.

Yeah I think it would be really interesting to see a story where the character becomes invested in the legality of magic not because they are forced to, but because they make the decision to join the fight of their own volition

But straight male relationships are being even more erased as gay couples become more prominent.

Personally, I think a balance between the two would be healthy for a lot of people, as both friendships and romantic relationships would be shown as natural and okay

Agreed. I can enjoy the whole MC is the only one with magic" but then there's either no consequences or whatever or they get locked up or something and I get bored

Yeah, it's one thing if the MC has magic, but if everyone else we meet has it too, then it's annoying.
Especially when it's stuff like elemental magic, how have you not been found out yet when you're constantly using fire and stuff?

Yeah somehow in these types of stories the magic never feels rare enough and the reader gets the sense that it’s near impossible for this many people to successfully hide these kinds of abilities

mmkay I kinda have this–but only because the magic users bred too much with the normal humans so they lost their connection to magic. My OC is a descendant of a powerful line and their magic gets forcibly awakened. Another character in a later book is also a descendant but they can only like–make plants grow better. Really lame stuff.

Honestly, big mood. Like, in my main story, I use the protagonist as a way to introduce the audience to the setting, but I also want to make sure she has a strong enough personality to drive an entire book, so the world is definitely going to be colored by her experiences, even though it’s in third person

I feel this. "Yes I do this thing that is frowned upon, but it's really good I promise!"

I swear its great

Ok so about the whole 'falls is love immediately' thing… my MC falls in love with an aromantic character and doesn't know they're aromantic for a while, and neither does the reader. A little while after the MC finds out, the aromantic guy dies. Then, the guy who has been dropping obvious hints he likes the MC eventually gets with the MC (after they recover from the trauma of aromantic guy dying). Is this okay?

@Fangirl616 group

This reminds me of something I did. I think it's alright.

Okay, just checking. I want to make sure to avoid the things people don't like, especially since I'm writing a novel that probably qualifies as Y/A.

I've never seen that before, I don't think. Sounds interesting
