What if it wasn't, because queerness is erased enough in history and Shakespeare literally wrote his most well-known love sonnet to a man?
Do me a favor and post it here.
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade,
When in eternal lines to Time thou grow'st.
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
Like there’s one line where Mercutio says something about Benvolio’s ‘hazel eyes’, and how they’re like hazelnuts or smth, and I was like yikes cause I don’t look into any of my friends eyes enough to compare them to various food items
yeah I want more where the plot starts because of something normal. Makes me feel better about my own boring life
(I’m sorry I just wanted to talk about Bencutio for a bit lol. Ciao!)

Me but with "goodnight sweet prince". That was hella gay.
Also "my dearest friend and benefactor"/the various "my dear Clerval"s in Frankenstein.

(Noooooo stay!! I love Bencutio lol!!)

I can see either way, I suppose. Can't wait to hear what Dom has to say lol
Rosencrantz & Guildenstern
^^And how do we know that?
Can't remember, but it was about a guy.
^^And how do we know that?
Um. History? Listen, as much as you want to have your whole "but that's how friendships were!" thing, there's a big difference between straight guys being affectionate and writing a sonnet about how lovely someone is. Alexander Hamilton was queer as well, his letters to Laurens were not just "male affection".

Oof ya I need to up my classic literature game cause there’s some real gems in there

oh no I was pointing out another sexuality questionable relationship created by Shakespeare.
Also, I'm sick of that weird fantasy trope (mostly YA fantasy) where there's a snarky peasant girl, usually a thief or a something, who has magic but it's outlawed, and then a prince who either doesn't have magic or has weird magic and they fall in love. It was good in ADSOM but it's been overdone to death lately imo.
Anyone else agree?

I have heard many a tale of this true gayyyyyyy icon lol
Also kinda off topic but I found a short story compilation of rewrites of some Edgar Allen Poe short stories and there’s some real nice gay stuff in there that adds to the original text really well
Something to consider is how our modern view places a lens over male affection.
on the new subject of Poe, we read a story called Usher II by Ray Bradbury. It's about a guy that recreates stuff from Poe's stories and um yeah it's really good. I've only read a couple of Poe's stories and I was still able to appreciate this genius 'tis very good
ADSOM?
A Darker Shade of Magic, I believe

Good point, cause bros traditionally aren’t supposed to be affectionate towards other bros and that can really put a damper on the perception of male relationships, but it’s also pretty important to highlight stuff like downplaying the love between two men and trying to sweep it under the rug

Ya I’m a huge Poe fan and that sounds really cool! I’m gonna have to read it. I really love how well he portrays that loss of control and the desperation of trying to regain it that afflicts so many of the characters in his stories

Yeah that's my deal. One of the few I really care about.
