I'm really sad that I didn't actually notice that kind of stuff when I was younger, and honestly, I was probably part of the problem. But yeah, a lot of stuff is passed off as "behavioral issues." Like no, hon. That kid needs some attention and care, and we're gonna figure out how to help.
And I'm deeply upset by the fact that my mom is a school counselor and is racist, kinda homo/transphobic, and holds a lot of other biases, but doesn't know that she does.
It's absolutely rampant, and let me tell you, some people don't realize that they're being like that, but it doesn't excuse it.

There's one at my school posting pictures of students that aren't dating and saying "we ship it" and ew gross? I thought in high school we grew out of telling people they should date but apparently not. And you're not even allowed to take pictures of people without their consent, let alone post them on the internet and say what school they go to

It's really sad that people can be trying to be good but still hold deeply racist beliefs.

This is off topic but what should I do about dress codes? My school doesn't really enforce them much, but it still feels illegal to break it, and I always feel that the one day that I break dress code will be the day they buckle down and enforce it. I really don't think that wearing leggings with a shirt that doesn't cover my butt will disrupt education, but I'm afraid I'd get in trouble if I was punished and argued against it.

@Pickles group

Leggings are usually fine at my school. Everything's a lot more relaxed than it was in junior high. But if you're really concerned, just have a sweatshirt or something you can tie around your waist

@Becfromthedead group

I guess it depends where you live too? In the conservative south, dress codes are kind of strict, especially if you're a girl. Like I'm sorry I want to wear shorts in 100 degree weather and most companies don't make long shorts that are cute. But we also had uniforms at my school so

@jupiter-sun-of-sweater-town group

I just… dress codes make me kind of mad. I don't know a single person who would say "oh man! look at her slightly tight leggings! i can't focus now, i want to look at her butt." I want to wear my leggings without an oversized tee, but I also want to follow the rules, you feel me?

@croccin-champagne

now, my advice not be the best, but

read your dresscode until you've practically memorized the parts about your gender, since they're usually gendered. keep a copy of it on you

and push it. because they're not going to give you too much shit the first time, usually just a warning, so by the time you actually do break it…you'l know the limits. teachers like to give you shit about any sort of pushing but as long as you know that you aren't technically' or at all breaking rules, you can bring that up

part of this is that you have to not be afraid of teachers and honestly any of the teachers who are giving you shit about that don't deserve your fear. i had a male sub call a fucking teacher from down the hall into the class while i was in seventh grade, and she pulled me out of class to tell me that, get this, my bra strap was showing. needless to say i was like 'and'

@Max_Miracle_DroppedMostOfTheirRPs

something i’ve known my friends to do is to bring extra clothes if you’re wearing an outfit you think might get dress coded. that way if the staff wins you at least won’t have to look like shit all day

@jupiter-sun-of-sweater-town group

Yeah, I definitely push it all the time. "oh, is this shirt only covering half of my butt? well, it's covering it, leave me and my leggings alone. the straps on this top are too narrow? i'm wearing a flannel over it, go away. my shorts are 0.2 millimeters too short? guess what, i've got long fingers so these are fingertip-length."

That type of thing only really happens in big-city areas. In middle school it might be different but I don’t actually know anyone who has been dress-coded before

@Pickles group

(okay does this just happen in my area? because when we get dress coded they make you wear something that they have in the office that’s like old lost and found stuff)

My school makes you wear extra gym clothes or a parent bring you something. And you get in more trouble if you have something else because that means you knew you were breaking the rules and intentionally giving them the finger which ?? Sometimes I just don't want to walk around in bloody clothes but go off

@croccin-champagne

what are they going to do, strip you themselves? they can't lmao. and if they try to up the punishment to suspension for refusing to change into unsanitary clothes, then you take that shit up. straight to the goddamn school board

People got dress coded a lot at my junior high. I got in trouble for wearing boots and sweatpants, apparently they were "pajama pants" and "pajama slippers". I had to sit in the office for a half hour while my dad had to take my sister to school and bring me clothes because she had to be there at a different time and he wouldn't have been home for her bus to come. She hadn't even woken up yet and the ladies kept glaring at me and were all "are you suuuure someone's coming?"
And a girl got in trouble for dressing up like catwoman on Halloween and wearing a skintight leather bodysuit but honestly that was kind of on her

@jupiter-sun-of-sweater-town group

I've seen girls get dress-coded for short shorts before. One girl was brave enough to wear the same shorts again a month later. As a person, I don't care for her (and at the time i was angry about the shorts bc i was a huge stickler for the rules), but looking back, that was bold.

@croccin-champagne

fghdfh i got in trouble twice for doing something similar

i had a sports bra and i was wearing it under and open zip up hoodie, with high waisted pants(what a LOOK), got in trouble, and then a couple weeks later did the same thing with a flannel and more high waisted shorts. part of the reason i never got hugely in trouble was probably down to the fact that the staff liked me because i wasn't a dick

@jupiter-sun-of-sweater-town group

I have this one crop top that I got when I was younger, except I bought it in a big size so it'd be a normal shirt on me. Now I've grown into it so it's kind of a crop top for real, so I just wear it with high-waisted leggings. I haven't gotten dress-coded for it yet, but I always feel a little nervous when I wear it.

@croccin-champagne

i can't just tell you to stop feeling nervous but also that's exactly what i'm doing, in a very nice way i hope you know

it's a shirt. and if you're wearing it with high waisted pants then you're barely showing much skin at all, at least, if i'm judging the length of the shirt correctly. i will personally fight anyone who dresscodes you, but also, if you haven't yet been, then you should be fine.

yes, keep in mind that it could suddenly change, especially if a new teacher or something showed up and was a dick, but generally i'd assume you're in the clear
