I desperately need advice. I've always been a straight-A student, but virtual school has brought out the worst in my procrastination habits. My grades are mostly trash rn but I just can't make myself focus. Nothing motivates me - nothing except realizing that it's extremely late and I've done practically nothing. I always say that I'm going to focus more and do better, but in five minutes I'm off doing my own thing. Do you have any tips at all for staying on task and not procrastinating?

I do the exact same thing, and I have two methods of motivating my self. A rewards system and a withholding system.

The Withholding System is when I don't let myself do something I really enjoy or eat my favorite snack until I got my work done. I'm not allowed on Pinterest until I do this work, I can't have any goldfish unless I get my grade back up to an A. That sort of thing
The Reward system is I set a big reward up, so I will make cookies and eat them when I am all the way caught up in this class. But along with the big reward there will be little rewards. Every two assignments done I get to refill my cup of orange juice. Every three assignments I get to take a 10 minute break, so on and so forth.

Here’s something that works for me with any long textbook readings where I have to take notes (it’d probably work with other stuff too I just haven’t tried)
I, as a human, am run on spite and spite alone most of the time
So I tell myself “hey, bet you can’t get this done in 20 minutes” and set a 20 minute timer and that gets me working hella fast. And if I don’t finish in those 20 minutes, I just start the timer again, and tell myself I’ll beat it this time.

@croccin-champagne

back when i was like, failing all of my classes in freshman year online, my mom even offered me a hundred dollars if i could get my grades up to passing before the end of the year. helluva motivator, but i did not, in fact, get there in time

@HighPockets group

F
Mine was that if I made it to school every day that week I could get a new book (not, like, a $20 hardcover or something crazy like that, but one from one of the used stores I frequent) and it worked pretty well.

@croccin-champagne

one of two things

write the weirdest bullshit specifically for shock value
try and crack a joke based on the topic because question hooks are way overdone. or make a really attention grabbing statement like 'llamas are the sole cause of america's economic decline'

@moss

Thanks but I don't think those work for my essay. I'm supposed to be writing about why Arthur Miller chose the title, The Crucible. Idk does anyone know a quote that's relates to the crucible?

Hmm, begin with talking about what a crucible is, it's all about pressure and building up heat until the mettle melts. So begin with that, Describe the function of a Crucible (Artfully of course, Drama all the drama lot's of descriptive words) and then use that to transition into your background info and Thesis. Sometimes I like to throw in a thesis statement after the hook in addition to all the other ones for extra flare.
(The every last link above is an Essay outline, should help you out, I can get 1,000 words essay's out in about an half an hour using that thing)

@Relsey-TheElder

tysm relsey this was super helpful i used some of the stuff you said there for my essay!

I'm glad that I could be of use. I spent my sophomore year perfecting my essay writing system and abilities, so if you ever need help with essay writing, I've got you.

@croccin-champagne

hello teens it is i, your local older sibling(i wont respond to any of you pointing out that you're older than me, sorry) here to let y'all know that i'm in the process of looking for a job/also looking for a summer job up in sitka. which means if any of you need help with resumes, someone to practice interviewing with, tips, or anything of the like, hit me tf up. my parents and grandma all did hiring/dad still does, so i have all of the good information at my disposal and have been utilizing the heck out of it.

pro tip for free: chill and casual flattery of the business is insanely good for getting a couple brownie points. also if you can go in a week later to ask about your application, if you need to and did it online just say you wanted to make sure it actually got sent in, because you had some mild tech problems at the time. it puts a face to a name and they see your app and are like 'hey this child came in'

@croccin-champagne

lmao same, my mom and biological father are from there, and so am i

Cool beans! What's in your personal opinion the best thing in Sitka?

the views are incredible tbh. the mountains on the island and all of the surrounding islands you can see. and even when its foggy or rainy you can still see the mountains on the island and they just like. somehow look mysterious in that weather.

they've got a huge artist community too, and so many good places to eat

lol i'm very aware that i haven't been active on notebook at all for a longggg time but anyone have any advice on how to go about picking courses and applying for things when you have absolutely no idea what you want to do with your life?

@croccin-champagne

think about what you definitely dont want to do
then cross those courses off.

now look at your options. what sounds fun? what sounds like something you would do? even if it's not career based, because that can almost always come later. what would you not loathe doing, what interests you?

dont think about 'what are you doing with your life' as a single linear path. you can do lots of things! you can take classes upon classes that you just like and never use them again. i took a criminal psychology course and i will never ever in my life go into a career like that! but i just thought it was neat.

stop limiting yourself to only career classes. take fun ones too. take ones that you'll talk about years in the future as your favorite classes. your life seriously isnt limited to career options, and after doing things that sound fun, who knows, you might even accidentally find your career path
