Abby nodded. ”I'm sure we did. Even if we aren't there yet, you know I'm not going to give up.” she reminded confidently. ”But… I really hope this is it.”
Abby nodded. ”I'm sure we did. Even if we aren't there yet, you know I'm not going to give up.” she reminded confidently. ”But… I really hope this is it.”
Nyt sighed as they neared the meeting room. "I hope so too." She quietly as the guards let them in.
Abby nodded a greeting to the guards as she passed them and gave Nyt’s hand a gentle squeeze to reassure and thank her for everything. She took a calming breath and stood as tall and straight as she could as the walked to their seats.
They walked to their seats and sat down. A few council members were chatting among each other and giving little glances at them.
Abby sat between Nyt and Caleb, trying to look calm and confident despite the butterflies in her stomach.
A few more council members trickled in until everyone was there. They all sat down in there seats.
Abby waited for the council to start the meeting but gave a polite nod and a friendly smile as a greeting to each of them.
(I have no idea how to run this.)
(Me either…)
(Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm)
(Ok… They are going to agree to peace, right?)
(Yes! I am not delaying that be anymore!!!)
(Ok. Yay! I can try to have one of the Council leaders make a speech announcing that if you want me to. It'll just take a minute.)
(That sounds good. Sorry if my answers have been short and dont make too much sense. Im sick.)
(It's fine. Hope you feel better soon.)
(Thanks!)
Abby was a bundle of nerves as the council stopped talking amongst themselves and one of them stood up to address everyone. She couldn't remember his name but he definitely was a leading member.
”Thank you all for coming to this historic moment. For the better part of a century, we have been living on this planet believing that the natives had become nothing more than a memory. It was only recently, through the courageous actions of four upstanding members of both communities, that we have seen our assumptions corrected and instead of reacting in anger for our actions when we first arrived, the two humans offered us not only their friendship but an opportunity to share this planet in peaceful cohabitation. We, the council, have considered this thoroughly and with great deliberation and have come to an agreement on this matter. We have agreed to accept their most generous offer and welcome any and all humans to come out of hiding and help us work together in the way that, perhaps, we should have from the beginning.”
Nyt beamed but stayed in her seat, almost shaking with excitement. She tail flicked back and forth rapidly. "We did it!" She whispered quietly to Abby.
Abby was in a mild state of shock as the speech drew to a close. We did it? As soon as she heard Nyt whisper a confirmation, she wanted to lean back in relief. She wanted to scream and jump in exhilaration. She wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. Her heart was racing and she realized that she was smiling broadly. ”We did. This is really happening.” she whispered back in amazement.
Nyt smiled and started laughing. "It is! Tomorrow we can get Mark and Peter here to start with the transition!" She said looking over at her.
Abby looked at Nyt with happy tears starting and gave a small laugh still trying not to explode with joy. ”We should celebrate later.” she suggested.
"Oh we will!" She said with a smIle. The council dismissed the meeting and the gaurds began to lead them back to the lounge that they were in before. It was clear the Adar and Cale were su pressing their excitement as well.
As soon as the door was closed behind them, Abby took off her mask and finally let out the cry of complete elation that she had been holding back since the speech.
Nyt pumped her fists in the air while squeling. She picked up Abby before spinning her around and kissing her before pulling back with a smile.
This time, Abby did expect Nyt’s actions and wrapped her arms around her neck like a hug as she continued to laugh happily. She was in such an elated mood she didn't mind the kiss at first. In fact, she wasn't sure if she, subconsciously, returned it.
