“You can come back and visit her soon,” Farron said, pulling his bag over his shoulder, “I swear it.”
“You can come back and visit her soon,” Farron said, pulling his bag over his shoulder, “I swear it.”
Azura quickly forced her frown into a smile. "Okay then, I guess we're off!" She said, ad charged out the door of the library.
In all honesty, it felt good to be back on the road, with a goal in mind. She liked not being tied down anywhere, because then she couldn't develop roots that were hard to cut.
They set off down the northern road, following an old merchants track that led from one village to the next. It was a few miles until the next town but Farron didn’t care.
They walked for a good few hours, stopping occasionally to get food or water, or simply to take a break, when Azura saw something sparkle a few feet from the dusty road. She went over to pick it up and inspect it.
"Someone dropped a. . . very expensive necklace, it looks like," she said. She couldn't really make out the object because it was caked in mud, but that was her best guess.
Farron walked over and gently took the object in his fingers, wiping away most of the dirt, “Definitely a necklace,” He muttered, holding it up to the light, “I wonder who dropped it?”
"Hey, this looks familiar," she said. She took out the notes she had taken on the picture of Farron's mother.
"It looks just like the one your mother had! Do you remember it?"
Farron took a few more minutes to study the necklace before his eyes lit up “Yes! Father gave it to her when I was born and she never took it off.”
"Okay," she said, trying to think, "so the question is, did she leave it on accident, or on purpose? Keep examining it, see what you can find, and I'll look around for more clues."
“There isn’t much to examine really,” Farron muttered, yet he did as he was told, “Maybe she placed it somewhere, like a tree branch or something, to be a clue and t just got knocked off into the dirt?”
“Maybe,” she said. “Oh! The gem color is Mauve, and isn’t that the name of the town across the Sparkling River? Maybe she wanted you to go there?”
“It’s possible,” Farron pocketed the necklace, “It’s a long shot but it’s worth a shot. Let’s head over there.”
Azura scanned the area with her eyes, careful not to miss anything important. When she finished, she agreed to keep moving.
The journey took a good few hours of walking, and they stopped a few times for water breaks but they soon made it to Mauve. They walked over the old stone bridge and into town.
Of all the places Azura had been, this, by far, was her favorite. The town had obviously embraced its name, since there were pink and purple paintings all over the gates and the buildings in the front of town. People had purple clothes, stores sold purple food, everything was purple. Azura was so happy to see the town that she almost forgot why they were there.
“I hate purple.” Farron muttered as they weaved their way though a crowd of people. It had always reminded him too much of his mother and he had thrown out all his purple shirts as soon as she died. Even now he couldn’t stand the colour.
“Oh,” she huffed, and snapped back to reality. alright, we’re looking for someone who has seen Farrons mother.
“So,” she inquired, “do you want to split up and ask people if they’ve seen your mother, or do you have a better idea?”
“Well, I don’t have a better idea, no, so I think we should go with that.” Farron ran a hand through his hair, “Meet back here in an hour then?”
"Sounds like a plan," she said, and took of in the other direction. She waded through the crowds of people, asking everyone in sight, but after about 30 mins, she had no leads at all.
Farron talked to a few people who gave him some ‘leads’ but turns out they were just hoaxes. He sighed and rubbed at his face. Nothing. Still nothing and he felt more lost then before.
Azura was just standing there, in the middle of a stone walkway, totally at a loss. Here she was, excited about finding Farron's mother, and now she was stuck. Again. She was tempted to give up, but she decided to keep looking. She looked in windows of shops, asked all around, and still, nothing. Until she was headed back to the front of the town to meet Farron, that is. She saw a tall figure with a large hood, so you couldn't see their face. The person looked a bit suspicious.
Farron came back to the meeting place heavy hearted. This was a joke. There was no way in hell there were going to find his mother and she was probably dead like he thought. Maybe they should just head back to Rosguard. He spotted Azura and walked over, “I found nothing. Maybe we should just go back to Rosguard, there’s nothing here.”
"Hey, wait a minute" she put a hand on his shoulder. "Don't give up so quick, Farron. Besides, look at that person over there," she pointed over at the figure. "Don't they look a bit suspicious to you? Like they're hiding something."
Farron looked to the figure then back to Azura then to the ground, “Maybe they are. But it could have nothing to do with what we’re looking for.”
"Well," she began, and grabbed his hand, "we won't figure it out if we stay here!" She pulled him towards the person, careful not to make any sudden moves so they wouldn't notice her. They walked for a long time, past the boundaries of town, and towards the hillside of Mauve. The person picked up the pace once they got out of midtown, and they did the same. After a while, they called out to the person, which made them go even faster.
“Hey! We wouldn’t hurt you! Just want to talk!” Farron called out, making the person hesitate for a moment but soon they were going at the same pace as before.
