Vesper looked over at him, eyes flickering for a moment. "Yes?" He said, hands in his pockets.
Vesper looked over at him, eyes flickering for a moment. "Yes?" He said, hands in his pockets.
Cassie laughed. "Well, that sounds great and all, but I think I'm good."
“Yeah. I’ll have to agree with you on that matter. But do you think of me as a child? I just wanna know.” She leaned her head against the tree with a new solemn look on her face.
Cassie winced. "I… you remind me a lot, almost too much, of my sister. She was the most childish person I ever knew, so… I suppose I do."
He paused, swallowing a bit. "You know me. I know you," he addressed, cautiously choosing every word. "What are you doing here?"
"I…" He hesitated. "Came because I was told to." I was raised as your weapon, as your thaumaturge, Aquila…I don't know how to be anything else.
His eyes flashed with guilt, a queasy feeling settling in his stomach. He was born to be a leader, and leader's were on top. He was bred for this role. He was Aquila Blackburn. "Who… told you?"
Vesper glanced down at his feet. "I don't know. My mother…set up a network of contacts before she died. Someone contacted me and told me to come here." And if I hadn't obeyed, there would have been consequences. You may be free to act as you wish, Aquila, but I have rules I must follow.
Aquila angled his head to one side and said, "What do you want, Vesper?" The words rolled off his tongue, beckoning. "What do you want more than anything in this world, Luna, or the next?"
Vesper frowned. "Nothing." He replied slowly. "I don't know." His mind had been destroyed and rebuilt so many times, he wasn't sure he was even his own person anymore. He had been programmed, had been created, to follow Aquila. It was all he knew at this point.
The smirk that normally resided on Aquila's face felt wrong, but he pushed through it. "What do you think you want?" he tried, searching for human in Vesper's responses. Hoping for something, anything human.
Vesper frowned again, eyes searching around as if the answer to the question could be found somewhere around them. "I…don't know." He said again.
The light in his right eye subsided, replaced with harshness. Control is power, Aquila. "I want an answer," Aquila demanded, almost visibly trembling. "I want to restore the throne, return Luna to its rightful place." The words were a script ingrained in his mind. "I want our powers back, our home." He raised an eyebrow, the silent question hanging in the air.
Vesper stiffened slightly, and his gaze returned to Aquila's. "And…I am your weapon and thaumaturge." He replied, face nearly blank. He had been brought up this way. He was to be Aquila's weapon and thaumaturge. He would do whatever was required of him. That would be his life.
"Glad to hear we're on the same page," Aquila replied in a monotone. Vesper was the ideal thaumaturge - loyal, obedient, unwavering. So why did this feel so wrong? He couldn't help but compare it to the easy conversations earlier. This was different. This was the future court of Luna.
Vesper nodded, remaining silent. What did Aquila want him to say, if anything? Best to remain silent. Speak only when spoken to.
“Oh. I’m sorry. I can go. If it makes you feel better.” She wasn’t even offended. Just sad because she knew some of the pain that Cassie was going through. She didn’t want to make it worse.
Cassie's eyes widened. "No, no, that's ridiculous. I'm fine, you just remind me of her. It's not - it's not a big deal, or anything, I've moved on."
“How?” Alphas voice was soft as she asked a question that had been churning in her brain for months.
"Therapy, mostly," she admitted. "But I try not to think about it. I really don't like talking about my feelings, if you don't mind," Cassie stated uncomfortably, hugging her arms to herself.
Hey! I might be available to be that last person you need lol if this is still open? Idk this just popped up first on the unread tab
