Rhydar winced in sympathy. "No need to rush. Okay, stay where you are until I say go." He paused. "Fair warning, I'm stressing right now so I might briefly switch to my native tongue."
Rhydar winced in sympathy. "No need to rush. Okay, stay where you are until I say go." He paused. "Fair warning, I'm stressing right now so I might briefly switch to my native tongue."
"Just perfect," he growled, gritting his teeth.
"Hey, I'm old. Don't judge." He twirled one of his rings. "Ta mal'eh. Go."
He began swimming in what he hoped was the right direction, trying to make as little noise as possible.
Some of the nymphs sensed his presence and swam closer. Rhydar's heart leapt in panic, despite not being there. "Toko, toko, toko, toko! Stop!"
Runner stopped, clenching his teeth. "Dude, I gotta use my dragon. I'm not fast or strong enough by myself."
He bit his lip ring, thinking. "Can you do it?"
"…Maybe?" He had zero confidence in his voice.
He sighed, rubbing his temples. "So that's a no." They said I'm to guide him… "Okay, what do you value more? Winning or life?"
He tilted his head. "Living sounds fun, not gonna lie."
"Good, 'cause I have an idea." He focused his attention on Runner, then did something he really hated–because it fucking hurt like hell–but would guarantee a safe escape. His very being split in two, the other half appearing next to Runner and grabbing his arm. It shot him through the water and around the nymphs.
"Woah-wOAH!" was all he could get out, confused as all hell.
The Rhydar who was in the stands grunted. "Shut the fuck up and let me concentrate."
"The fuck is that supposed to mean?!"
His head pounded and his body ached, but he managed to hold on just enough for his doppelganger to launch Runner safely out of the maze. Then he collapsed from the pain, breathing heavily. "There…" The two halves of his being reconnected, and he was on the verge of passing out.
Runner pulled off his blindfold and fell onto his ass when he slipped from the puddle of mud the water had created. "What the fuck just happened?"
"I split my soul to get you out. You're welcome," he gritted out.
"You sent me in there in the first place, asshat!"
All he could do was sigh in defeat. His lids were heavy and his body was weak. "I'm…" He panted for a few seconds. "I'm droppin'… out…"
Runner, despite his frustration, shook his head. "No you fuckin' aren't. I need someone to watch Tess when I'm not around."
"Baby… Sis…" he said, referring to Cinthia.
"You drop out and I'm marching my fat ass to wherever you are and kicking the shit outta you. No." Why did he care so bad? He didn't know, but no way in hell was he letting that happen.
He rolled his eyes, then actually did pass out. Kiriti was immediately there, being his team's medic, and the judges teleported the two to the infirmary. She took the headset to inform Runner. "It's Kiriti. The prince is being healed at the moment. You're trial is over, so please find somewhere to wait for the results."
"Any clue where Tess's sitting?" He asked, attempting to wring out his shirt.
"She is waiting for her trial, so she is unavailable at the moment"
