"Well, of course the staff are watching… they're just too quick. The evacuation is just for safety." Gracie explained, watching Kai going in. "Where are you going Kai?" she called just a beat too late.
"Well, of course the staff are watching… they're just too quick. The evacuation is just for safety." Gracie explained, watching Kai going in. "Where are you going Kai?" she called just a beat too late.
A smile grew on Kai's lips upon hearing Miran's last remark. He shook his head and chuckled before breaking into a run. He couldn't take his usual route to the art classroom because it would have been blocked off to try and contain the fire, so the long way around it was. He could hear teachers calling for him to get out of the building, but under no circumstance was he going to leave her.
He made it to the classroom and flung the door opening. The fire alarm blared louder in that section of the school than any other, which was probably why he found her covering her ears. Under a desk at the far end of the room, a small girl cowered, tears falling down her face as she begged for the noise to stop. Kai made his way over to her, and gently tugged at her sleeves. She looked up in alarm, then smiled weakly and flung herself at him.
"Come on, lets get you out of here."
With the girl in his arms he ran through the halls back towards the exit where Miran and Gracie were. The girl was still weeping, her body shaking in terror as she clung onto Kai for dear life. "It's okay, we're outside now, nothing can hurt you."
Gracie stared in half-horror and half-amazement. "Kai, you know you could've seriously gotten hurt in there right? They've had to rebuild that one classroom before!" But, he was alright, but another girl, her hands, were clamped onto Kai like metal. "But who is that?" she asked. He had run off without warning, and come back with another human.
The girl glanced over Kai's shoulder, her glassy eyes strikingly similar to his own. She smiled as best as she could before answering the question for Kai. "I'm his sister, Mira."
Not many people knew he had a twin sister, since they were never in the same classes, however when someone found out, they instantly saw the similarities between their appearances. Truth be told, the reason Kai looked so 'feminine' was because he looked at lot more like his sister and their mother rather than their father.
"Kai!" Miran breathes a sigh of relief when he sees Kai come out of the building. "You have a sister named Mira?" Miran shakes his head. "Is she alright?"
"Yeah she's alright, aren't you little sis?" Kai ruffled his sister's hair, chuckling at the scowl he was rewarded with.
"Hey, you may only be 3 and a half minutes older, but maturity wise I am the older one." she huffed, pushing her brother away from her, wiping away the remains of the tears from her face. "Thank you for coming for me though."
"Anything for you." Kai shrugged, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Besides, dad would have killed me if I'd left you in there." he made his way over to Miran. "Are you alright?"
"The guy who just ran into a burning building is asking me if I'm alright?" Miran raises his eyebrows. "I'm fine, aside from being scared for you, my dear."
Mira's eyes widened, and suddenly a wicked grin formed on her lips. She got Kai in a headlock and started knuckling his head. "You didn't tell me you had a boyfriend! Aww that's cute!"
The next moment was a blur of movement, but Mira was suddenly on her back on the ground, a subtle 'oof' escaping her lips. "I should have expected that."
Kai stood above her, daggers in his eyes as he held out his hand towards her. "Don't use that word with me."
"I know, I know, I'm sorry." she chuckled, pulling herself up, dusting her clothes off. She turned to Miran and held out her hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you by the way, you're the new kid right?"
"Uh… yeah." Miran grabbed her hand and shook it. "I'm Miran." He glanced at Kai with a slightly confused face but looked away quickly. "It's nice to meet you as well."
Kai turned away from the two of them, sighing. "I have a feeling we might be leaving school early."
Mira shook her head. "You mean you will be leaving school early. Last time this happened they managed to get it back under control before the end of the day."
As if on cue, the teachers announced that the building was safe to enter again, and in the distance they could see the two culprits being taken to the Principle, again.
A long groan came from Kai as Mira dragged him and Miran back into the building. "Go on, go to lessons. You only have one left."
"So, what's your last class?" Miran asked Kai, glancing over at the kids that started the fire. "I think I have Chemistry, which is going to be interesting since that's where the fire was." He grabbed the rest of his lunch and swept it into his backpack, then pulled out his schedule. "Yep. Interesting it will be."
"I don't know what lesson I have, I can't remember." Kai shrugged, glancing around aimlessly rather than looking at Miran. "I'm probably going to hop the fence and go home."
It was a bad idea, but the school had give up sending his dad emails about lack of attendance. They couldn't force him to stay after all.
Gracie laughed at Mira dragging both Kai and Miran into the building. But, she followed them into the building, still chuckling to herself.
"Really?" Miran pouted. "And leave us all alone?" He looked at Kai with a sad expression. "Please don't do that to me. Besides, you're already in the building. To go out would be more work." Miran gave Kai a crooked grin.
"Why do you have to be the voice of reason?" Kai rubbed the back of his head with a sigh. "Fine, I'll go to lesson if it gets you off my case."
He hadn't been revising and he knew for a fact that there was going to be a test — looks like he was back to winging the languages yet again. It had somehow worked for him the previous year but he wasn't going get away with it forever. "I have French, so if I come back with a twirly mustache and a beret then I'm blaming you."
"Oh, I think you would look funny wearing a twirly mustache and a beret," Gracie remarked. "I'd actually like to see you in that get up."
"If anyone could pull off a twirly mustache and beret," Miran smirked, "it could be you. I'll be counting on you looking like that when you come back, in fact."
"Oh not you too!" Kai's eyes narrowed as he pouted at Gracie. "And here I was thinking that we were somewhat friends."
He turned on his heels and, with his hands in his pockets, dragged himself towards the language corridor. I suppose they'll want to hear me say 'Honhonhon oui oui' and eat a baguette as well. He made it to the classroom just before the teacher closed the door. At the back of the room, Max had saved him a seat.
"You ready for the test?" Max asked with a wink.
Kai shook his head and proceeded to rest his head on the desk. "L'herbe est-elle verte?"
"You never revise yet you always get a great score, what's your secret?"
To act like you don't pay attention when in reality you stay up late at night to complete the homework and extra work that you ask for, but you can't tell anyone that because you have a reputation to uphold. Is what Kai wanted to say, but instead he said "My secret is exactly that."
Miran watched Kai disappear into a classroom, then made his way towards the science building. As he had suspected, the chemistry classroom was closed, so the entire class ended up at the library with a free study period. Miran was glad- maybe he would be able to get to sleep at a reasonable time that night. Unfortunately, he couldn't concentrate on his schoolwork- his mind was too busy thinking about all that had happened that day. And Kai.
Gracie just sighed and headed to history class. Ugh, history was so boring, but… oh well.
Miran was glad when the school day was finally over. He'd managed to get about a third of his work done, which wasn't too bad. He walked out of the library, suddenly overwhelmed with the number of people around him. There were too many… how was he supposed to find Kai and Gracie?
Gracie grimaced to herself when she realized that she'd forgotten how many people usually swarmed around this area of the building. Of course, there were many people all over the building, but here she couldn't even see the main doors. She tiptoed, trying to see over the people, but of course she was too short. She sighed, and decided she might as well go blind. Again.
Miran looked around, trying to control his breathing. He was usually so good at staying calm, but… he was failing. How hard could it be to find a girl with a horse and a handsome boy with blond hair? Very hard, apparently. Someone knocked into his shoulder, and he stumbled backward, into a cloud of cloying perfume. No, he was going to lose it. He had to get out of there. Now.
Gracie gripped Etta's reins tightly and headed in the direction of what she thought might be the main doors, though she saw a wall after not walking less than a couple of steps. "Crap," she thought to herself. Where on earth were the main doors? Her best tactic might be to just continue along the walls, and she pushed and shoved her way past countless people, hitting yet another wall. Turning to continue walking besides the walls, she spotted the doors briefly before they disappeared again. "Ugh," she voiced her disgust aloud, as the doors were on the opposite side of the building. Before she could forget where they were Gracie quickly turned to the direction of the doors as much as possible and walked as fast as she could.
Miran quickly made his way towards the first area he could see that didn't have too many people, which turned out to be a hallway. He leaned against the wall and took a deep breath, ignoring the looks the other students gave him. He could do this. He'd done this before, hadn't he?
