Runner gave Tess a look. "So you're not gonna tell me?"

"I answered your question, didn't I?"
Zeus rolled his eyes, also well aware of her 'old friends'.

"Okay, then who are these 'old friends?'"

"Old men." She snickered, imagining their faces if they heard her call them that.

He rolled his eyes, slightly frustrated.

She sighed and turned to face Runner. "Fine. I went to New York to have a meeting with my Mafia contacts. I'm meeting with them again today as well."

"The same guys that supposedly jumped me?"

"No. This isn't New York. This is a completely different world."

He frowned. "Then why even bother going back?"

She shrugged. "I bounce back and forth. It's nothing new. I spend time with my different families whenever I can." She frowned. "But they need my help at the moment. A new rival's not playing nice, and it's making them lose their money."

He rubbed his face. He wanted to protest her going back to the Mafia, but decided against it.

She sighed. "Look, Runner. You can never leave. This is why I didn't want to tell you."
Zeus listened, not wanting to get in the middle of their lover's quarrel.

"Never leave? You're on a different dimension."

"Different realm," she corrected. "And I travel all across the universe. It's nothing new." She rubbed at her temples. "They took me in, Runner. I told you this. I can't just abandon them."

He looked down at his feet, frowning heavily.

She looked away too, glancing at her brother for some support. He shrugged. "I'm leaving in a few hours." She said. "Are you going to come to babysit me, or not? I'd like to know now before we argue about it when I need to go."

I don't have a good feeling about this, he thought, although he said nothing.

"Well?"

"Y-yeah. I'd like to go."

She nodded. "Okay." She turned to the pancakes. "Now, time to devour these bad boys!" She snatched up a few and put them on a plate, grabbing the syrup, butter, and sugar and putting them on the counter. She poured a bunch of syrup all over the poor pancakes.

He didn't feel hungry at this point, so he just leaned against the counter as she gathered her food.

She and Zeus ate their food, then Zeus cleaned up his mess and started to head out.
Tess perked her head up. "And where are you going?"
"To say hello to Andromeda."
"Ooooo! Love is in the air!"
He snorted as he pulled open the door. "Not really, since I have a girlfriend back home." He shut the door before Tess could interrogate him.
Her eyes widened, then she stomped her foot in frustration. "Oh, you asshole!"

He snorted, rubbing his face.

Tess finished, then dumped her plate in the sink. "Ready to go shopping?" she asked.

"Oh, shit, I forgot about that," he said. "Yeah, let's go."
