Station of the Survivors
The southwest continent had the most drastic physical damage due to the C.A.T explosion. It is actually an floating island where the native inhabitants agreed to a peace treaty and were attached to the facility and other continents via mag locks. The explosion actually created earthquakes, tsunamis, monsters, radiation, collapsed buildings, etc. luckily the natives and other C.A.T humans managed to hid underground where they built a new society over the next 500 years or 500 a.e. They also evolved at a bristling pace turning from humans to monstrous beings capable of surviving in the brutal environment, however C.A.T humans stayed the same.
Dystopian Dogged determination in the face of impossible odds. Not every hero has powers.
The country originated from the ocean as a floating island with a city just entering the era of 1990. They had brick buildings primitive cars and a whole lot of steam pipes (steam punk). the reason everything ran on steam was because the water was the most common resource. Also fish and salt was the most common food. the water came from the split of sea water. The society also had such advanced weapons that the facility was scared of being demolished. Once the island drifted into the C.A.T facility a peace treaty was signed and the two races intermingled for about a year before disaster struck.
Picture this, the year is 0a.e. the entire south west is thrown from the facility and all the buildings collapse. This kills around %50 of the population. Then every car exploded spraying steam, this kills and mortally injures around 20% of the population. The 30% left is then hunted by the new monsters appearing, this decreases it by 15%. Eventually the 15% who remain, around 1,000 humans make it to the subway where they were able to block off the entrances and start rebuilding. First the main priority was the lack of fresh water, this took two weeks to solve with a sand a dirt filter being invented. Then the next problem was food, they took out a wolf and tried having someone eat it. That person died the second the meat touched his mouth. The next party retrieved some dried goods and intact food from various shops in the area. But this canned food would only last so long, the scattered survivors needed a more stable food source. After raiding a garden center and digging out the sides of the subway for farm land, the survivors were able to gain a reliable food source. While it took awhile for people to gather, eventually all the surviving groups met up in the central subway station. Then they set about setting up the kingdom. Here the king was chosen. The king was not a leader, nor anyone special, he was just your average joe trying to survive. However he rose to the challenge, he instated the very first council an official government was formed. The king was old and kind, he arranged building housing, building defenses, having shops built, extraction raid schedules and increased trade from surrounding settlements. While the king was not perfect, see the rebellion of bread, he listened to his subjects and the kingdom (such as it was) thrived. At the year 50 a.e. the city became just that, a city. The buildings that were once shacks were now residential districts and shops with specific farms dedicated to different shops. The first swielders and scrap smiths came at around 100 a.e. due to the monsters evolving even faster. Eventually the only force that could fight the monsters effectively were the strength enhanced natives and the only ones who could manage building were the C.A.T facility people. This called for a military to be made and it successfully defended the city in the great battle of 125a.e. Now was the problem with of electricity. The generator was designated to a special group of 3 warriors and 3 master engineers. it took another fifty years once the generator was claimed to integrate the electricity into the city. Sadly the king was not around to see it, at around year 135a.e. he succumbed to an deadly illness. His finale words were "take that you mother forking monsters" with a middle finger to boot. Thus the council assumed control they already had most of the government due to the kings illness. Afterwards the council take over the city had 300 years of prosperity. The scrappers were created to add new farms and alcoves in the subway, they were all the poorest people but still earned a decent income. At around 450a.e. new cities were formed throughout the subway, due to the influx of humans : the 1,000 from ages past is now 2,000,000 however 900,000 are natives so they aren't really human anymore. This put a tremendous stress on the generator and caused the engineers to add other things to it to create more power. The year 500a.e. marked the 100th council and the first power outage. It only got worst as more groups were mysteriously killed at the generator. Eventually a scout group was formed to find more information outside the law, and the council had to calm the public against the attacks. it was clear an coup was imminent but they still held on hope that the scout team would return triumphant. The leader of this group was a daddies boy and an over all jerk. He abused his power as scout and delayed the departure for over 21 years with his influence in the council. However our story does not begin with this jerk face but with a farmers boy who will rise to the top with his will, intelligence, and determination alone.
runs on earths physics except for two things,
1 the days are 6 hours shorter due to the dust from the explosion
2 the soil on the surface is shot and only below ground is fertile
The meat of every animal is completely irradiated and is super poisonous. it would kill the C.A.T people in seconds and the natives in minute.
The synthetic food made by machines is widely known as the worst and most nutritious food on the planet.
There is no native magic on this continent, however the generator and the intact machines are considered magic.
The evolution of the native humans is an astounding feet only capable through the effect of the pathogen released by the explosion.
magic from other continents work perfectly fine here.
Farmers are the lowest, they farm the plots of lands for the shops and have the opportunity to move up by registering as a scrapper.
The technology that was previously there is completely useless due to the explosions EMP. As a result the general populace, also called Scrappers, have become masters at creating basic machines and tools out of scrap.
This includes hoes, picks, trolleys, small transport cars, and drills for digging. As a result of constant demand they are decently compensated but are still the second to lowest on the tier ladder.
This is an even mix of natives and C.A.T people
The next rank is C.A.T engineer, they make sure the buildings are stable and keep up the cities appliances as well as keep up the electricity, plumbing, food machines, basically any complicated machine
The next rank is the Scrap Smiths (play on blacksmith) they are able to make weapons and armor out of the scrap, and while not able to wield them, they can sell them to the swielders for a healthy profit.
This is an even mix of both the native and C.A.T people.
The natives make large bows and Great swords because of their strength and size, but the C.A.T people specialize in light weapons, such as rapiers, and light ranged weapons, such as crossbows and small battery pistols.
The next rank is the Skarmers they use the machines and tools from the first rank scrappers to hollow out tunnels to grow food such as potatoes and carrots.
This is mostly the C.A.T people because they are most familiar with large buildings and tunneling, after all they made most of the subway.
The next rank is the swielders who are capable of wielding the scrap weapons and armor the Scrap Smiths create to do extraction runs. the strategies here is doge or block at the right time then attack when the enemy is off balance or is off balance due to an attack. they always use the hardest blow in no particular area for speed purposes. This generally works but is sometimes troublesome in large groups.
These are mostly natives due to their physical abilities but C.A.T people are in here as well as scouts and stealth units.
The rank after this is the personal council guards. Basically anime samuri, they are that good at fighting and protecting.
The highest rank of the hierarchy is the generator operators and the council themselves.
The old king had a big committee who had the ability to stop a decision if unnecessary or stupid. This is to ensure that the decisions of one person do not destroy the fragile civilization. Generally the king is just and fair because the council has the power to vote out a bad king.
The council has the rest of the power now due to no new king and is in charge of land portioning, keeping everyone fed, keeping the monsters from invading, and keeping the economy stable while outlawing ethically challenging practices. Basically keep the peace in a post apocalyptic underground kingdom... no pressure.
The generator operators are all C.A.T engineers from the old world and are protected by an elite group of Swielders.
Every couple years they come back underground to teach the next generation on how the generator works and resupply the generator living conditions. As a result half the people think its magic and half know the science behind it.
The generator is run on a stream by spinning a turbine, also it has around 20 solar panels plus it has a thermal generator in a natural hotspot.
the inspiration for the mutated monster/human came from dead cells. The use of tactics and brute strength come from chess. The king/council was inspired by the Olympian council.
the monsters are animals that were infused with various scrap melting and mutating them to heighten their natural ability's. The only way to kill them is through cutting them up, hitting them with electricity, or stabing their heart.
There is a monster at the generator but its an morph monster. morph monsters are rare and can morph with other monsters to become bigger. this one is as big as the generator. the only reason it hasn't attacked is because it is being controlled by one of the council members, and he is using it as leverage to move forward in the council.
The monetary system is in bartering and all stores are required to give a loaf of bread to any starving walking in.
