Dreams in Ikimono
A World of Magic and Deceit
Fantasy
In the middle of nowhere, lays an island. The island is affectionately called the Isle of Ikimono; at least to its people, as the rest of the world has no memories of its existence. It's not expected, but the sub-tropical island is home to life. Human life. And flora and fauna of course. Three barrier islands surround the Isle of Ikimono, each holding their own purpose to help the life on the island survive and thrive.
The year is 1953. The humans in the science field decide that they need a place that is isolated enough for their testing. They end up finding the small island of Ikimono, which is located at Point Nemo. A few select men and their wives and children are sent to the island in 1955, which has had no human contact since two years prior. Over the next year, scientists checked in on the few families to see how they would survive in a completely isolated area, as their first test. In August of 1956, the group of scientists return to Ikimono for their monthly check-in, only to see that it has vanished. The humans on the island had discovered that the island held magical properties. It did not hold many, but the ones it held were important. One of the three magics discovered allowed the humans to put a barrier around the island, keeping them from leaving the island and keeping the people outside out; at least without special permission from the people inside. Another magic kept the island hidden and out of sight from out the outsiders. That second magic was what kept the scientists from returning and is what eventually led to Ikimono and its people being lost to time in the outside world. And for the third magic, it has been lost to history, or at least that's what the people think. And for the first magic, it was discovered recently that with precision and extreme carefulness, it could allow the barrier to open in a specific spot, allowing people to come and go, with government supervision,
Since the Isle of Ikimono is on Earth, they share the same Laws of Physics.
The Isle of Ikimono's technology doesn't make much sense. While, in some fields, they are incredibly advanced, in other fields they are lacking in advancement, falling behind many countries. In the science field, Ikimono excels. It is much more advanced than most modern countries, such as Britain and America.
The Isle of Ikimono is home to the one of the most advanced science laboratories in the world, but the rest of the world is under the impression that they are the top in the field, not the Isle of Ikimono. The Isle of Ikimono's science field has the technology to alter life forms. They can fuse humans and animals to create creatures creatively called, hybrids. The scientists have the hybrids undergo many extensive experiments, but that's not something that the hybrids or any of the public know about.
In day to day tech, the Isle of Ikimono is lacking and falling extremely behind. The Isle of Ikimono has no vehicles of any sort; most people get around by walking or riding a bicycle, if you were lucky enough to own one. The island is also home to a few boats, only used to move between the main island and the barrier islands or for government business.
The magic system of the Isle of Ikimono is restricted and confusing, to say the least.
The first magic is known as The Barrier. It is what keeps the people from leaving the island and what keeps people from entering the island, without prior knowledge from the government at least. Recently, it was discovered that with precision and extreme carefulness, the barrier could open in one specific spot, allowing people to come and go without risk of anyone coming in and anyone leaving.
The second magic is known as The Concealer. It is what protects and hides the island from the outside world. It shares the same borders as The Barrier, but when The Barrier falls, The Concealer will still stand. That it, unless if it falls too.
