Release Form

A defense mechanism granted to Chosen Ones, and often the most powerful yet dangerous technique in their arsenal.

Within each Chosen One's Soul is a hyper-concentrated Alternate Form Soul Core surrounded by a barrier of modified Neutral Energy that is connected to the mind. This barrier keeps the form locked away and out of reach of the Chosen One, but it gradually breaks down with powerful negative emotions like distress and anger. If the barrier is destroyed completely, the Release Form is forcibly activated and takes over the body and soul.

The Release Form is still just that -- a form. The actual appearance is unique between Chosen Ones and there are no limits on what direction it can take. It tends to share some physical traits with the original body, but not always. It is not uncommon for excess elemental energy to flow from one or two points on their body as the Chosen One's magic is amplified tenfold. Though this power can be difficult to control, the greater challenge is in controlling the Chosen One's own behavior: the Release Form minimizes their self-control and reverts their instincts to a primal state, with their rage especially directed towards whoever caused the initial negative feelings that triggered the form.

From the moment the Release Form is activated, the barrier that originally held its core back starts to regenerate, gradually reducing the power the form provides until it shuts down completely. The barrier also becomes stronger every time this occurs, so it takes a larger or more extended bout of strong emotion to activate the Release Form another time. Eventually, a Chosen One can learn to trigger the form at will and even maintain their sanity during it, though the latter requires decades of meditation and practice.
