The Lady of the Lake is a mystical and ancient title for the living embodiment of the land. Nyneve is the current Lady of the Lake, her very being intertwined with the essence of nature itself. She holds this position until she chooses to pass it on to another person in a ritual shrouded in mystery that no mortal has ever witnessed. She bestowed the enchanted blade Excalibur to Arthur, blessing his succession to rule as High King, though her full reasons for doing so remain hidden.
