Yuki only sees the facts. He's more of the kind of guy to think things through; despite being a know-it-all, he genuinely does use his brain more than anything. He might try to pretend not to care, but he has a heart of gold and loves endlessly once someone breaks his outer shell. Yuki is very responsible, in special cases. Despite being an alcoholic, he tends to go weeks without drinking merely because he ran out and can't afford to buy more. He goes weeks without alcohol because after the first few days it immediately effects him. He goes through several layers of sickness before getting over it, only to buy more after a week or two and downing it all over again. However, his snarky behavior is more of a facade to hide his deepest insecurities. Getting to know this man will lead you to seeing a broken shell and someone completely different than the person he acts like in public.
Reading, drinking, occasionally hunting but he knows how to ration his food so he only hunts every other week, he also enjoys practicing ice magic, as his race didn't focus too much on learning defense or attack spells, they only used the spells for innocuous purposes. Yuki also learned mapping as a way to help him get around the forest he lives in, so he often goes on long walks to add to his map.
Ice magic, studying, survival, he also has an internal compass and doesn't get lost very easily. Studying so often, Yuki has learned how to focus well and can retain more information.
Prejudice against humans, but tries not to let it affect how he treats them. Humans killed his entire race, so he only sees war in their hearts.
Yuki is an alcoholic, he drinks as an escape from the grief of losing his family. Yuki, as a know-it-all, is always ready to argue, and thinks he's better than you by default. He can come off as rude and ignorant because of his prideful nature, but deep down he means well. Yuki can also be stubborn and steadfast, being positive that he's right 100% of the time. Yuki is afraid of fire and minimizes his use of it when cooking. (Yuki may be afraid of fire, but he's too proud to admit it and will only say that he merely dislikes fire.)
He's the last of his kind, after losing his entire family in a war. His motivation is to do his family proud, and hopefully to move on from the loss in order to let his family's spirits rest in peace. Yuki always wanted to save someone to make up for the fact that he couldn't save his entire race. He's still filled with that peaceful nature of being a Shinel, so he often disappears at the first sign of a fight. However, after he finally decided to run towards the fight, he found his first opportunity to save someone's life.
Proud and confident, he walks and talks with a sense of knowing more than you. Bit of a know-it-all, and will often scoff at many things you say; even if there's nothing for him to correct. He'll twiddle his thumbs and scratch at his head a lot, the usual habits of someone in deep thought. Often you can see him lost in his mind and he'll stare, completely oblivious to the world around him.
Lawful Neutral
Child years:
As a child, Yuki and his sister enjoyed playing with their neighbor, Kireina. His mother did a good job at raising her two children, but nevertheless she often worried that she wasn't doing a good job as a mother when her children went through phases or got angry, which is when her husband reassured her that things like this happened and she had to work through it. Even in middle school, Yuki's peers and teachers praised him, often times referring to him as "Professor Whitman's son". Yuki and his sister, Kora quickly made friends with their neighbor, Kireina. Yuki never learned the piano, but he adored listening to it during Kora's practice sessions while he studied. Basically, Yuki was living a peaceful life in his town, Gorod l'da.
High School/College:
During High School, Yuki reached top of his class, was taking the equivalent of honors, and everyone highly respected him. A few people asked for Yuki to tutor them or explain certain problems to him. Yuki didn't mind; he liked to show off his intelligence. At around high school age, Yuki and Kireina started dating. Two years into college, Yuki had a wonderful, beautiful bride that he was about to marry. The two were perfect for each other; by the time Yuki proposed, everyone had already predicted these two would be an incredibly happy couple. However, the human race had built up an irrational fear of the Shinel, and planned to raid their town and destroy the race. Unfortunately, the day they executed this plan happened to be the same day as Yuki's wedding. His fiance, Kireina died in his arms after he said his vows to her. Yuki was forced to flee as someone pulled him into the bushes. Of course, that someone was eventually shot as well and all that was left of the race was Yuki.
Adult Years:
Yuki spent the next five years surviving on his own. He found a cabin in the middle of the woods and took residence there. It was close enough to a town, where he got his alcohol weekly (unless he goes through the alcohol withdrawal, in which he is unable to leave his house for over a week). One day, on the walk back to his house, he heard someone in trouble. After a minute or two of searching for the sound, he saw a girl trying to get away from a troll, to which he saved the girl and brought her home, hoping to heal her back to consciousness, but not expecting to get emotionally attached to her since she looks so much like his sister. She somehow convinces Yuki to join her on her adventure, and through the journey she helps Yuki to learn how to properly grieve the loss of his family, and therefore helping Yuki get over his alcoholism. During the journey, Yuki and the girl, Celia, pick up two more girls that are also in need of an escape.
IQ of 131
Yuki was considered one of the most intelligent individuals of his race. Yuki's father was a professor at the educational institute in Gorod I'da, which is why Yuki was top of his class growing up.
December 27, 1994
Yuki doesn't have any pets, but he can summon an ice spirit in the form of any arctic creature (ie. polar bear, snow bunny, snow owl, white tiger, etc.)
Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)
Hermione focuses on the facts and technicalities, seeking only to rise in the academic fields. This is comparable to Yuki's addiction to books and facts.
Tony Stark (Marvel)
While Tony Stark has a heart of gold and an underlying need to save everyone, he tends to hide this sensitive heart with snarky humor and a witty defense. Yuki has this same tendency to hide his heart with a somewhat unappealing mask.
More Specific Notes
These questions are taken from various posts that contain specific character developing questions.
Q: How does Yuki think of his father? What does he love and hate about him? What influence - literal or imagined - did his father have?
A: Yuki's father was a professor at the educational institute in Gorod I'da, which is why Yuki was top of his class growing up. Yuki had a healthy respect for his father but also worries that his father might be that of a coward. Yuki developed a sort of hero complex because he didn't want to be cowardly like his father, but because he was forced to run away from his entire family after they were killed, Yuki struggles with forgiving himself for such a shameful act.
Q: Yuki's mother?
A: Yuki's mother was a stay-at-home mom. She used to be in High School band, she played the piano, which is why Yuki was so entranced by Kireina when she plays the piano. His mother did a good job at raising her two children, but nevertheless she often worried that she wasn't doing a good job as a mother when her children went through phases or got angry, which is when her husband reassured her that things like this happened and she had to work through it.
Q:Brothers/sisters? What does Yuki like/dislike about his sibling(s)?
A: Yuki has one sister named Kora. She likes to play piano like her mother, knit, and sing. Yuki loves it most when he's studying and she's practicing piano, because she has learned the most beautiful songs that help him focus. Often times Kora can be absent-minded and not listen to Yuki, which bothers him. She has a tendency to reject Yuki's hero complex and thus mild arguments might start. Either way, Yuki loves his sister and would die for her.
Q: What kind of discipline was Yuki subjected to at home?
A:Yuki's mother was relaxed with her discipline, but she recognized bad behavior when it became obvious and did her best to minimize it. Often times she would separate Yuki and Kora when small and petty arguments got out of hand. Yuki's father mostly focused on Yuki's studies, training him to excel in education.
Q: Was Yuki overprotected as a child?
A: Not really, there wasn't much to shelter him from, and since his father wanted him to be educated in all aspects, Yuki was subjected to as much as his father knew about.
Q: Did he feel rejection or affection as a child?
A: Yuki's mother is a very loving mother and thus gave her children lots of affection. At around middle school age, Yuki would even feel embarrassed about his mother giving him affection in front of people.
Q: What was the economic status of his family?
A: Since Yuki's hometown was moderately small, there wasn't much of an economic status to hold, but Yuki's family was respected and regarded as somewhat "superior", which they tried their best to take humbly.
Q:What would completely break Yuki?
A: He's sort of already been broken, but to see Yuki at his most vulnerable moment would be to give him another opportunity to save someone he cares about and taking his chances of succeeding away from him.
Q:What was the best thing in Yuki's life?
A: Asking Kireina out on a date.
Q:What was the worst thing in Yuki's life?
A: Kireina dying in his arms.
Q:What seemingly insignificant memories stuck with Yuki?
A: Probably the walks with Kireina in the forest, the old piano they found in the forest with plants growing over it, the song that Kireina played, and many moments when Yuki was studying and Kora was playing piano.
"She kept getting mad at me for filling my stomach with those glasses. She called it the "amnesia water". She tried to convince me that the vibrations that ran through my veins didn't ripple the water that I stood in. But they did. And now the pond is dry. The roots and branches that once flourished in the forest are now dry and crusty. All but one leaf. One leaf, that's holding onto a thread. I prayed so often that my eyes would open over heavy bags and I would find myself under light rags. It was oddly comforting. The kind where you know everyone else would find themselves at a feeling of being out of place, but you liked it. That's how you explained it to me. That night you played those keys in the forest. You told me about the keys you played. A feeling of unknown, but familiar comfort hit me in waves. Like the waves that delivered you from this god-forsaken hell. I prayed, and no one answered. Which is why now the only time I look up is to dump the glass into my stomach.
I look out the window as I hold the glass in my palms, the water dripping down more places than the walls, and I ask myself the same question I've been asking myself ever since the thought went through my head.
If this is heaven, where are you?"
A gray tee with a black suit coat and black pants are the closest to formal Yuki is capable of reaching
A blue tee with a faded green-ish brown button up, and occasionally a dark colored jacket, along with brown pants.
Not much of a difference, but he wears a green tee shirt and no jacket.
Normally Yuki will just wear the gray tee with no pants, but after Celia started staying at his house, he bought a pair of pajama pants to wear
Yuki has PTSD from the war he experienced and has never returned from the destroyed rubble that he once called home. He fears that it would trigger memories more clearer than what he already goes through in the occasional but not uncommon nightmares. This is also why Yuki avoids fire; it surrounded him as his family died in front of him. When he sees fire, he sees memories.
Yuki experiences alcohol withdrawal just about every month, recovers from it, and soon returns to it when he goes back to downing alcohol and running out of it again. Normally he will merely experience headaches, nausea, disorientation, and irritability, but on a more extreme day he might experience vomiting, loss of appetite, insomnia, fast heart rate, and very rarely seizures.
Yuki only took 2 and a half years of college because the institute and everyone in it was destroyed. However, Yuki majored in History and Religion.
During Middle School, Yuki learned about the most common religions in the world, all of the mathematics up to Algebra 1, and a crash course on History (meaning he only learned the generalities of everything, from the origin of the universe to now). And had a larger vocabulary than most kids his age already, as well as a crash course on all the types of science. His extracurricular class was learning ice magic.
During High School, Yuki focused his studies on more in depth History and Science, but also learned Mathematics up to Trigonometry, and could present high graded speech, and won all his debates. (At first, he won his debates because merely because he refused to lose and stood for his side). By now, Yuki picked up mapping as a mild hobby, only increasing his vocabulary. Yuki also took an interest in learning about the more minor religions.

Kagayakun
Yuki doesn't worship the gods, so his faith isn't really that strong. If anything, he sees them as a mere bedtime story.
Anarchist
The definition of Anarchy is "a state of society without government or law." Now, some people might think of anarchy as synonymous to chaos. However, where Yuki grew up, this is not the case.
Yuki grew up in a town with no government. His race was peaceful at their base nature and thus got along with each other easily. There was no murder, there was no theft, there was no fraud. This race was simply peaceful. Since Yuki was never under a government growing up, he found residence in a cabin far enough away from any towns, but a good walk away from a monarchy kingdom. When he does visit the kingdom, Yuki never spends enough time to be considered a citizen of the kingdom.
Yuki does not have a job. He lives on his own, hunts on his own, sells his game occasionally and plays strategy games and bets to earn money to pay for essentials he's unable to achieve otherwise.
Noodles is a luxury for Yuki. He normally eats the game he catches, which are various wild creatures that carry enough meat on them, but if Yuki catches enough game in one hunt, he'll sell some of it in exchange for noodles, in which Yuki can then treat himself to a nice meal.
Green and grey striped scarf, made by his little sister
Yuki's race was not violent in the slightest. Growing up in a race of people that didn't even bother with physical training, Yuki found his interest in books. He later became top of his class and everyone adored and admired him. This inflated his ego to the point where he grew proud and over confident to the point where he believes the strongest weapon is the mind.
There were many owls in the forest next to Yuki's old town, and every night they'd chirp their songs, and it helped Yuki sleep.
