French; Though his city is very impersonal, his Raisers (equivalent to parent) were very rough. They forced information into him (info is transferred through computers into their brains). The fored transfers damaged his mind and he went colourblind because of it. He finds solace in painting because even though he can't see some of the colours, he doesn't need to be vengeful or defensive to survive: all he needs to do is paint.
When he was Released (the Giver, I know), Charlotte took him in though she had only been in 3 months herself. She was still healing when she took him in (see Notes) and upon learning her story, Nathan vowed to help her as much, more if needed, as he had been trained to do. He helped her with everything he could. Charlotte and him then took in Leo the next year, and Tess two years after, making her their Youngest. Everything above happened before book 1.
Nathan starved to death (he really does die) after giving his rations to Leo, who was sick. Instead of heading into his Section ( Lihaparu (the Underworld) ) in the Underworld where he'd most probably be stuck forever, he escaped, leaving everyone else in his group stuck there forever since you can't move if you're missing a group member cause your soul isn't complete ( Bond ). He absolutely LOATHES himself for doing it, not only because it trapped his Group and him but because it goes against everything Charlotte ever told him about solidarity and calculated decisions. He meets Lillian then, and decides to help her to 'redeem' himself. He doesn't give himself to her after he's fallen in love with Lillian because he believes he doesn't deserve her and she doesn't deserve to be chained to him.
Level 16 (which is six elements more than she should have, and technically because his Raisers implanted a Herbology file instead of the Literary file hence the fact he can't read or write)

SEE NOTES
Charlotte is not his literal sibling, and Teresa not his literal child. It's the Group system in which the relationships are equivalent.
The concept of being Released: children on his planet are educated by Raisers (non-biologically related Carers) then Released from their protected village into the wild for ten years so only the best survive. A system of Groups was started: when you are Released, after a week alone, you get adopted by a Group (maximum size is 4 people). You're supposed to be at least 1 year in to be the oldest of a group but when Nathan's Oldest, Charlotte, was Released and taken into a group they quickly kicked her out which isn't supposed to be possible because: when you join a Group, you get a Bond which basically seperates your soul in 4 pieces and redistributes it so that a Group are basically one entity. When they kicked her out, they had to rip her soul out of her. She was left with half a soul which she had to learn to live with. When Nathan was released, she had no choice but to take him in though she was only 3 months in, and it almost killed her when her and Nathan Bonded because she didn't have enough soul to share, but she just survived.
Once you're done your 10 years, you have a choice to go back to your village and become a Raiser or, for a price depending on the person, go to live in the City where you live out your life cared for and happy. (The reason Nathan hates the Myriads, so people who live in the City, is because they pay a price which is renowned for its cruelty to never have to help children survive the Release.
He doesn't have one

He doesn't have on: finds the concept of having a favourite colour ridiculous (they're all different for a reason, they can't be compared)
Mentor: Second oldest, so a lot of responsiblity falls onto him especially taking care of the children (Tess and Will
Soldier
Do not allow one what one has not deserved (courtesy of his Raisers)
Okpukpesin: this is the most national religion where he's from. It's a monotheist religion that regards their planet in its entirety as the ruler of all, so absolute respect of the land is essential, also the Okpukesin are very superstitious
