The Ruby Court has always been considered the weakest of the three vampire courts in Hem Lodir, but Velana sought to change that. She made a deal with a powerful necromancer to use his army to seize power, though no one knows exactly what her end of the bargain was.

Most just hope it was worth it for her short reign, for as soon as the necromancer's army was no longer backing her The Onyx Court took control once more and Velana's time in power was one of the shortest in the history of the courts. She only managed to remain head of the Ruby Court because those in it believed unseating her would cause further political unrest and many feared if she was ever able to make another deal they might be the ones she targeted next.

Still Velana knows that she is considered an embarrassment and she's been trying to work her way back to the top ever since - a remarkable feat considering she's short on allies, favors, and power.
