She was born to Violet Whitbread and Quinton Whitbread, after the unfortunate passing of her brother Ollie Whitbread, who died from ischemic heart disease. They never spoke about him.
She was born with a white patch where her left eye was supposed to be. Her parents, shocked at her appearance, asked many different healers what was wrong with her. None of them knew, but they all said it was an omen for destruction. Violet and Quinton believed she was going to bring around the end of the world. They tried to act like the mark wasn't there for 3 years and treated her well. When she turned 4, her parents rarely spoke to her or acknowledged her at all. Even though they loved her, they only became more afraid of her as the years went on.
When she turned 7, her parents decided to make sure she never interacted with anyone. By the time they made that rule, Jasmine had already made a friend, Karla. They gave in a little and let her stay friends with Karla but they very rarely visited one another.
Once when snuck off to go to Karla's other friend, Tristan. When they all met, Jasmine noticed that Tristan had a strange black mark on his hand. When she asked about it, he replied that it was a birthmark. She said she had one too and asked if his parents were strict about it. Tristan shook his head and then said he had to leave because his parents were coming from up the road. When Karla and Jasmine returned, Jasmine was scolded heavily and taken home, forbidden to ever see Karla again.
One cold winter when she was 13, her family went on their normal trip to go get food from a farm a good ways away and they took her along, knowing she didn't know how to take care of herself, as every other time they went, she had been left with Karla. She was told by her parents not to interact with anyone and to stay behind them. She did but she saw a boy off lazing about and waved at him. He waved back and her heart fluttered and she got butterflies. Her parents soon saw and denied her to see him, as they feared she would scare him with her birthmark or do something bad to him. Before she left, he secretly gave a note to her, asking if she wanted to meet properly. She looked at him and quickly nodded and they made a time, date and location.
They spent a lot of time together in secret from both of their parents and they eventually fell in love. One night, Hunter's father followed him to their meeting spot and he was outraged that his son wasn't working like he should, even worse than normal. He forbid his son from seeing her ever again. As she snuck back home, she was extremely worried that her parents would find out. After a week, Hunter met with her again, saying his family had accepted them dating now. She finally got up the courage and asked him if she could live with them, saying how terrible her parents treated her. Hunter agreed and he helped her get away from her home. His parents were upset at first but after hearing Jasmine's story, they welcomed her in. Her parents soon noticed she was gone and when they found her at Hunter's home, they told her that she was a danger to the family and everyone else too. When she told them she wasn't, she was hit in the face by Quinton. Hunter's parents told Quinton and Violet to leave as Hunter went to grab Jasmine. They left, saying that Jasmine would be the end of everyone.
They eventually got married when Hunter was 24 while Jasmine was 20. They lived on the farm, with his parents moving to a house close to the farm. Hunter and Jasmine had a son named Cole that same year. The family adopted an abandoned young colt when Cole was 3. They named him Phantom and grew up alongside Cole. While at home Jasmine spent so much time with her son, not wanting him to feel what she did.
2 years later, Karla and Tristan, her husband, came to get some food. Hunter was happy for Jasmine and started his own relationship with them. Jasmine also introduced them to Cole.
Once, when Cole was 6, he fell off a small loft in the barn while Hunter turned his back. He broke his right leg and fractured his right arm. Jasmine immediately blamed her husband and she yelled at him to go to find a healer for Cole. After Cole was healed, Hunter and Jasmine had a huge argument. She got worse after that, constantly invaded his privacy, not letting him explore, and not let him work on the farm alone.
When he got older, he started to distance himself more and more from his family. Jasmine eventually started to give him more freedom, at the suggestion from Hunter, but the damage had already been done.
One day when Cole was 14, he was doing chores when he started yelling at someone. Jasmine asked Hunter to see what was wrong. Hunter came back in with a teenager named Dakota and he said he was gonna take them in. Jasmine was hesitant at first but quickly warmed up to them.
After a month and a half, they asked if they could leave. Cole was ready for them to leave, Hunter and Jasmine insisted they stay. They agreed but only if they could live outside of the house, suggesting the barn. Hunter denied and said that he would help build a house for them that was close by. The entire family and Dakota started building the house and they continued to live in their home.
After the house was built, Cole felt guilty for turning Dakota away and asked if he could stay with them that night. Jasmine and Hunter both agreed and they spent the night together. Cole came back the next morning, in high spirits to the surprise and joy of his parents. Everything seemed fine until 2 years later...
