Raef
Protagonist, Round
• Raefael
• Taekwondo Boy
• The Soup Devil
(reference to how he only, or mostly only, eats soup. Also because his village is convinced he will murder them all)
Male (Also gay, but I'm too lazy to make a Sexuality section)
14 1/2
112 lb (51-ish kg)
67" (170.18 cm)
Black, dyed red at the ends
Shoulder-length, straight
amber brown
Half human, half banshee, looks human
Pale-ish
Thin, athletic, tall.
Red welts on his hands; burns from hot soup.
Also this wouldn't fit anywhere else, but he has a sort-of long neck because he's half banshee and banshees have longer necks to fit their vocal cords...
Raef is generally sort of stiff, even when he's with friends, because he was exiled to the forest (a life sentence) at four. (See Backstory) He's not used to social interactions, and sometimes tries to avoid it. His idea of a celebratory dinner is soup, which is almost all he ever eats because food is scarce.
Once he trusts you though, he'll loosen up. It's surprising how clueless he can be with social life, because for all the years living out in the forest, he's amassed a LOT of survival knowledge.
Happy:
• Smiles a little more
• Turns ankle when standing; itching to practice but too nice to say so
• Makes better soup than usual
• Sort of loosens up, pretty easygoing
Sad:
• Runs hand through hair
• Goes away to practice Taekwondo
• Puts up 'inner shell'
• No smiles, serious and dreary
Nervous:
• Also runs hand through hair
• Twirls the red ends of his hair
• On edge
• Skittish
Scared:
• Looks around for something to kick
• Avoids eye contact
• Mutters to himself
• Looks cornered
• Tries not to show he's scared
Excited:
• Smiling, less shy
• If it's something really good, he'll often kick the air for no reason
(his version of pinching himself and letting out his excitement)
• Laughs easily
• Makes more soup
(his way of celebrating: more soup with maybe an extra ingredient or two)
He has trapped a Night Mare (vaguely horse-like shadow form made of your fears) in a spoon, but he doesn't know how to get rid of it. Then Abi, Knox and Mallory come. He travels with them until they figure out how to get rid of it.
He wants to get rid of it to show his village that he isn't evil and he won't murder them in their sleep. He doesn't want to live his life being feared. He wants to prove that he's not a bad guy.
He's very mistrusting at first (see Backstory), and though he's a formidable ally, he'll take a while to decide to trust you, something that almost cost him his life.
He thinks his village is bonkers for exiling him, but he still wants to prove himself to them. Fate sucks that way.
• He's very, very good at taekwondo
• He's a pickpocket because man cannot live on soup alone
• He can fight with either his hands, feet or soup spoons as a weapon
• Cooking and experimenting new soup recipes
• Practicing taekwondo
• Painting with mashed berries (he usually paints landscapes and pictures of the village)
December 29th
He never went to school, though his knowledge of the natural world is astounding.
See Backstory.
It's not technically HIS, but there's a raccoon that he feeds soup whenever he sees it.
He calls the raccoon 'George'
He can see Mallory, being half-banshee and all.
"Would you like some soup?"
(that's mostly here as a joke, tbh)
"I want the one thing only you can give me; your absence. You're giving me a migraine." <-- blunt Raef
"Frankly, I don't see you as a vulture. I see you as something a vulture would eat."
George the raccoon.
When Raef was born, his dad hated him. He misspelled Raef's name because Raef was crying so loudly. 'Twas the start of a horrible father.
Raef's dad's job was, as Raef's mom put it, to fly around the world and yell at people. Raef and his mom were alone most of the time, and when Raef's dad WAS home, he spent that time yelling at Raef.
Raef's father was an aggressive man. Raef's mom signed Raef up for taekwondo lessons. It was a subtle threat to Raef's father, that if he hit im or anything like that, soon Raef would be able to hit him back. Much harder.
When Raef was four, his mom died. His dad was overseas, came home to yell at Raef, and left again. The last thing Raef ever heard his father say was "I hate you as much as she loved you."
Raef's dad died in a plane crash three months later, after ending Raef's taekwondo lessons because he thought they were dangerous. Now Raef's village is convinced Raef murdered his parents. They take drastic measures, and when he's sleeping, they dump his onto a big rock in the middle of the forest.
(Note: there are no bears in the forest, I can't write a village THAT cruel)
Raef has been living alone (with the exception of George) in the forest since that day, leaving once a week to steal some water to drink and one edible to add to his soup. Once he took a Swiss Army Knife, but that was for survival.
When Raef is mad or extremely happy, sometimes he'll punch the air in front of him. If it's really bad, he'll walk away and kick a tree. It usually results in him spraining his ankle, and the tree looking a little worse for wear.

He's a LOT behind the times, seeing as he lives in the forest and gets out once a month to steal food....
I don't think he even knows who the current Prime Minister is....
Dusty red
Soup, soup, and more soup.
He could have rabbits or frogs in his soup, but Raef just won't kill anything. No matter if it's a daemon or a guinea pig, he won't. He's perfectly fine with breaking three of your bones and giving you a concussion, though.
His soup spoons. They double as weapons, and they are used to cook.
His soup spoons. You can bring soup spoons anywhere. Swords? Not as much.
And his spoons are deep and quite useful for bonking people on the head and knocking them out.
He likes jaguars
