As the oldest of 3 brothers, Nicholas was supposed to be the best and brightest. And he was and is. But it was never enough for his mother, a domineering and unstable woman.

Nicholas grew up living in constant fear of his mother. She would beat him and his brothers for the slightest mistake. She beat a normal personality out of him, that's for sure.

While his brothers turned into timid men, Nicholas turned into a controlling sociopath. And he watched as the 20 year war between Vespers and Davenport absolutely wrecked Seneca, though they were a neutral party. His parents raised him to hate Davenport, and he does.

Ever since Louise's incident, Nicholas had been planning. To prove to his mother that he's not weak. To prove that he's not worthless. His plan is simple: marry Louise and eventually work his way onto the Davenport throne.

There's just one problem: Louise is just like his mother, at least, in his mind. She's strong and independent, so he feels the need to get her back under control. He wants her, but does not love her. Luckily for him, Nicholas is very charming. And the death of Queen Margaret will be the perfect opportunity...
