"Yeah, let's go." He uncurled from himself somewhat and stuck his hand out.
"Yeah, let's go." He uncurled from himself somewhat and stuck his hand out.
Maria took his hand.
They appeared in his cave, and there a neatly shaven man with black hair and crisp whitish gray eyes stood to face the forge; he was taller than Havenwood and wiry.
"Pr-Prometheus!" Havenwood stuttered and quickly stood in front of Maira.
Prometheus turned. "It's pointless trying to hide her from me, Artemis."
"Hello! My name is Maria, and let me guess, Prometheus right?" Maria said. She wasn't afraid whatsoever .
Prometheus glowered at her. "Yes. I am Prometheus. Artemis, it was senseless for you to attempt to smuggle a mortal under Zeus' nose. He'll find out soon."
"Are you going to tell him? I did what he asked!"
"Well, not smuggle per se, more like a sort of internship." Maria added.
"Y-yes, thanks, Maria! She's learning how to do the job she was destined for, and she's doing it very well!"
"Sure she is, but Artemis, what do you plan to do if she dies? She's merely mortal, after all."
"She's a young healthy mortal. She'll hang on yet."
"If I die, that's my problem. Not yours." she said.
Havenwood nodded. "Don't tell Zeus, he'll kill her for sure. Probably do the thing he did to you!"
"He might. Now, make sure he doesn't find out. I won't tell him but the sly comment about my punishments will cost you. Good day." He stepped from the cave.
"What was…. what was that all about? Am I not supposed to be here?" she asked.
"No, you're not necessarily what you were destined to be: an engineer. Zeus gets really mad when mortals aren't what they are here. But, I'll keep you safe. You're a great assistant."
"Listen. Am I going to die? Be honest." she said in a low but dangerous tone.
"Soon. But not at Zeus' hands."
"Am I at high risk of dying?" she asked.
"Well, no, but you're bound to die at a normal mortal age unless… well, it'll never happen, but the chances of you dying at an old age is very high."
"I mean dying via Angry God Smiting?"
"I told you, I won't let it happen, I promise."
"But am I at risk? I need to know."
"No, not with me around. Don't worry."
"I think you're lying!" she said accusingly.
"I'm not! I am just as powerful as Zeus if I want to be! If you think you're in danger, I can send Apollo to take your thoughts, and that'd be the end of it! Do you want that instead?"
"I don't know what I want. I trusted you! I though this was safe, that I was actually wanted here!" she wailed. "¡Me mentiste! ¿Por qué harías eso?" she shouted.
Translation: "You lied to me! Why would you do that?"
"I didn't lie to you! I told you that Zeus might be mad with you being here! If you're going to make such a big deal about this, then I'll send you back and give you the rest of your pay. And I didn't lie!"
"¡Cállate y Explica lo que está pasando!" she said.
Translation: "Just shut up and explain what is going on!"
"I've tried to sit here and explain it to you! Zeus doesn't like it when a mortal's job doesn't match their destiny. But I may be able to convince him that you are doing your job here! Bottom line is: You're not in any real danger!"
