"I ain't too sure," Gus admitted, digging around behind the checkout counter for any kind of ladder or step-stool. "I hope she's just napping or keepin' watch. I didn't ear any doors open and there ain't been any screamin', so I reckon we can finish up with this before we start worryin'. How's that sound t'you?"
Darius nodded, “alright, just tell me what I need to do” he knew June wouldn’t run off, it wasn’t like her, so he figured she must just be asleep or on watch or something.
Gus found a stepladder at last and carried it over. "Start coverin' the window holes with hangin' cloth, in two sections each like normal curtains. Might as well make it look a little homey in here. Don't worry about curtain rods, jus' nail the cloth right to th' wood at th' top. And mind your fingers acourse."
Darius nodded, grabbing a peice of cloth and walking over to a window, with the hammer. He carefully hammered it in place not hitting his fingers.
"Nice work." Gus returned to the swinging escape door and started carefully fitting it with a wooden latch. It wouldn't do them any good if it let enemies in. "Y'know, Darius," he remarked proudly, "you're doin' great. I think your concentration is better and you ain't hurt yourself in a while now. I knew it would jus' take a little practice to get you used to this."
Darius nodded, “Yeah, the more I interact with the same person the more I become more…aware” he said thinking ’the more I become myself’. But he couldn’t say that out loud, no one would understand.
"Makes sense t'me. I think bein' around other folks make you more grounded. Before I met y'all, I was on my own for dern near a year, and lemme tell you it was startin' to mess with my head somethin' fierce." Gus shook his head. "I was carvin' my name in sign posts jus' to feel like somebody would know I was there. I'm sure glad I don't have to dodder along all my myself anymore."
Darius nodded, “if I had had to do that, I would have died.” He said plainly. “I miss music…” he said sadly, music was something he had grew up with, had always had, and now in this world, well he had lost his phone a long time ago so he had no source of music. He felt empty without it at points.
(I'll reply when @imNOTdenki or one of the others comes back so they can catch up)
she moved to try and help Gus and darius as she listened to the two of them talk, she didnt really have anything to add.
(Welcome back Mere! Also sorry I vanished, I ended up having to take a mental heath break from social media for a while. I'm better now though)
"Music can be a downright life saver," Gus agreed. "Sometimes I think I should become a wanderin' music man so's I can brighten the day of other survivors everywhere I go. Trouble is, folks might like music, but they mostly don't think it's worth payin' for. I'd starve pretty quick if singin' was my day job."
(thanks! call me Aristotle if you want— also yeah I get it, no need to apologize.)
(Thanks! Aristotle it is ^^)
Darius nodded, 'well, that is just life isn't it? some of the things that people over look, can be the only good thing left in the world after a while, ya know?" He shrugged, "I never did anything with my music, I just liked to play"
June woke up and walked up to the group with a yawn, "what'd I miss, i took a bit of a nap"
(if we become friends further in the future, due to this roleplay or whatever else you can call me Ari, or you can call me that anytime you'd like really ∩﹏∩)
(that's good to know >w<)
"Oh, hey June!" Gus looked up and waved cheerfully. "I was wonderin' where you were. We've jus' been buildin' up th' defenses so these glass doors ain't so easy t' break. Darius is bein' a big help. Show her all you got done here, Darius!"
Darius did a motion similar to what a magician's assistant would do during a magic trick, showing off what he did.
June ruffled Darius' hair, "good job Dare, glad you were productive while I was sleeping"
Jasper just listened to them talking, and looked ashamed away from June, avoiding eye contact.
Gus smiled to see Darius getting the praised he deserved. Then he noticed Jasper acting as if she was uncomfortable. He leaned over. "What's th' matter?" he whispered. "I never did find out if you 'n June had a fight or somethin'."
she looked away, "We didnt…." she sighed, "i just feel like i betrayed her.."
"What?" Gus frowned and tilted his head. "How in tarnation did you betray her? I thought you two were gettin' to be pretty good pals?"
"I lied to her…I told her it was okay if she slept and then I would just keep watch and it wouldn't mind anything…" She fidgets with her hands. "Don't tell what I did…please.."
