They shrugged. "We suppose." They looked at Hatta. "And what will you sacrifice?"
They shrugged. "We suppose." They looked at Hatta. "And what will you sacrifice?"
Aliana let out a sigh and seemed to relax slightly.
Hatta shrugged a little, thinking. "I don't know."
Aliana remained silent. She understood his hesitation before quietly offering, "What, would, would I be able to sacrafice my dreams for the sword?"
The girls laughed. "No no no." they replied. "That isn't how it works, dear."
"Oh," Aliana responded her voice going quiet, "It was worth a shot."
"Yes." one said.
"But we must be given something we desire. What desire would we have for your dreams?" asked another.
Hatta sighed softly.
Aliana went silent and focused on Hatta. She was unsure what desire he would give up. If he had any at all.
Hatta gave a tight smile. "So. What price is it this time, ladies?" he asked, running a hand through his hair. His fingers lingered on the white streaks. The evidence from his last encounter with the three.
Aliana could see the white streaks in his hair, and just now started to wonder how he got them.
They tilted their heads in unison, watching him carefully. "Not the same as last time, do not worry." one said.
"A word of caution, Hatter." said the second.
"You may not want the truth of our later story." the third intoned.
Hatta raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Aliana was curious as well as to what they meant. She stayed quiet finding it not her place to speak.
They shook their heads. "You will understand. Now. You want the vorpal sword, do you?"
One smiled a little. "Understand the beast it slays, and you will know the swords home."
"O…Kay?" Hatta replied slowly.
Aliana paused and thought about what the girls said. Understand the beast it slays? It had to do something with the Jabberwocky.
The girls sat down on the well. "Sit. The story is not long, but it may be… shocking." Their eyes glittered.
Hatta sat on the grass.
(Here comes my plot twist~!)
(Ooo can't wait!)
Aliana sat down next to him crossing her legs.
The girls looked at each other. "What do you know of it, first? The beast?"
"Not much." Hatta replied.
"I don't know very much either," Aliana told them after Hatta spoke.
The girls nodded a little, and looked at each other, then Hatta and Aliana.
"The Jabberwocky is not natural. Surely you know. There is only ever one of them, and sometimes long stretches where there isn't one." Said the first, slowly.
The second picked up where the first left off. "They are magic, in its deepest roots, that has been twisted into madness."
The third looked directly at Hatta. "Madness, that is carried through blood."
Hatta frowned. "I don't understand." He said slowly.
"The closer you get to the beast, the worse your madness grows, does it not?" The first filled her head.
"The closer you get, the harder to stay in control,"
"To stay sane,"
"To stay you."
Hatta plucked a piece of grass, staring at them. "What are you saying, ladies?"
Aliana thought for a moment and figured it out. She glanced to Hatta and then back to the girls if she couldn't believe what they were saying.
"Simple. The Jabberwocky you wish to kill, Hatter,"
"Is your father."
Hatta blinked slowly. "My father is dead." He said in a slow way, eyebrows knitting together.
"No. His last act when he was human formed,"
"Was to create you,"
"And raise you,"
"For a while."
"The closer to this beast you get,"
"The more like him you will become."
"You are only hastening a process that would happen anyways."
Hatta was pale, eyes wide.
Aliana looked sadly at Hatta and then back to yhe girls, "Isn't there something I, we can do?"
The girls looked at her. "Of course. You can stay with him to the end and carry the next Jabberwock."
Hatta blinked rapidly. "Now…hang on a second!" He exclaimed, starting to his feet. "You mean that I…you…she isn't going to…no! I am not going to do…that…with her." He glanced at Aliana. "No offense."
Aliana felt her face flush as her mind raced through all the different thoughts. She wasn't. They weren't. No! She looked at Hatta, "No, none taken."
"Oh you won't be able to control it, dear." The girls told him.
"You'll simply seek out the nearest person capable of childbearing, towards the end."
"You'll be more beast than person, by then."
Hatta shook his head quickly. "No, I…that can't…"
