"What? Oh yeah. Its old and precious. But thats French, not Latin. I wonder WHY it's precious?"
"What? Oh yeah. Its old and precious. But thats French, not Latin. I wonder WHY it's precious?"
Robin shrugged. "I dunno, the gem looks valuable?" He inspected the ruby on the ring.
Hashy followed them and leapt onto Hazel. "Hazy! Robby Rotten!"
Robin sighed. "I asked you not to call me that!" He whined playfully. "Or Batman's sidekick."
"Birdie, I wanna call you that." Hashy sighed.

"Fine, it really doesn't matter that much." He spotted a bird outside the circular window in Hazel's study. "Hey, Hazel? Can I let the bird in?"
Hashy grinned and pulled open the window, letting the bird in.
The bird fluttered over to Robin, landing on his finger. "Hello, Blackberry. I haven't seen you in a while, how have you been?" The bird twittered at him happily. "Really? Well she is one lucky bird, hmm?"
Hashy cocked her head. "Whaaat?"
"Oh! I never told you I could talk to animals, did I? This is my friend Blackberry." The robin nodded politely. "He was just telling me that he found a mate, isn't that lovely?"
"Oh! Cool, Robbie Rotten!"
"It's one of the reason's I'm called Robin, actually. Blackberry, this is Hashy, be nice." Blackberry flew over to Hashy, sitting on her shoulder and preening his feathers
Hazel smiled at the bird. "That's one beautiful creature."
Robin smiled back at her. "Yes… I told you that I can speak to animals, right? I think you asked once because I go to the forest every morning. The deer really are quite interesting."
"It's really pretty, Robbie!"
Blackberry played with a strand of Hashy's hair before hopping onto her head, twittering in a way that sounding as though he were laughing. Robin smiled at the bird again. "What are you doing, Blackberry? I know her hair's messy, but it isn't a nest."
Hazel laughed, and leaned on a bookshelf, causing a book to fall off. Picking it up, she saw it was a book about gems. "Hey Robin, you said this was a ruby, right?"
"What is your new mate's name, Blackberry?" The bird chirped once. "Maple? That's a lovely name. Is she pretty?" Robin grinned playfully and Blackberry flew to his shoulder. "Of course she is." Robin stroked Blackberry's head, and the bird closed his eyes contentedly. Robin looked over at Hazel. "Yes, it's a ruby. Why?"
"A book on gems. Gimme a second." she said, sitting down. "Okay, Rubies are the birthstones of July… The most valuable are a full rich red with blue tones. Thats pretty cool actually! Uh… Hm… It's EXTREMELY rare to find a perfectly shaped ruby. Here, Lemme see the ring!" she said, putting the book down and taking it from Robin. She gently popped the gem out of the gold band and looked over it carefully. She put it back in, and handed it to Robin. "Its a perfect ruby!" she said, awestruck.
"Nice! How many carats is it?" Blackberry inspected the ruby, cocking his head to the side slightly
"Not sure." she mumbled, opening the book again. She snatched the ring ( AGAIN ) from Robin, and looked it over more carefully. Slowly, she slipped it on her finger. Suddenly, she was no longer in the study. None of them were. They were all in an open field, not a tree in sight. Just field. Hazel shrieked and fell onto her bum.
"Hazel!" Robin jumped up and ran towards her. "Are you okay?!" Hazel had collapsed as soon as she put on the ring. He tried to shake her awake to no avail
Hazel stood. ( Scratch that, she's alone in the field. ) "Golly heck…" she murmured. The field was beautiful, and when she looked at the pink and orange sky she realized that the sun was rising. She gazed at the ring. Did it do this to me? she thought. Then to experiment, she took it off. Suddenly, she was in her study again.
Robin looked down at Hazel, his blue eyes filled with worry. Blackberry looked down from his shoulder, twittering incessantly
