"Maybe we could just walk east for some time, and hope we find some civilization. We will eventually, no matter which way we go. Did you have a plan?" Emilia looked up at Rose.
"Maybe we could just walk east for some time, and hope we find some civilization. We will eventually, no matter which way we go. Did you have a plan?" Emilia looked up at Rose.
“My plan was to just follow you.” Rose sat down across from Emilia and took some bread and ate it. Lisa was leaning on a tree in the distance behind Emilia. Rose got distracted by Lisa and would stare at her.
Emilia glanced up at Rose, taking that she was staring at her. She turned a faint red and grinned nervously. "Why… are you staring at me?"
Caught off guard she stuttered. “I’m, I’m not staring at you, I’m, um, I’m staring at that, that tree over there.” Rose motioned to where she could see Lisa.
Emilia looked over. "Oh. Alright, then." Her voice was quiet and vague. She continued nibbling on her bread.
Rose sat in the awkward silence staring at her bread. Emilia was looking quite better from the one day at the asylum, she could only assume that she did also.
Emilia left her bread half-eaten and rose. She started to trot away with the lake shore.
“Where are you going?” She rose and followed Emilia to the shore line, bringing a small piece of bread that was in her hand.
"I'm going to take a bath." Emilia looked over and blinked. "Unless… you'd like to see me naked, which I don't think anyone would, then you can stay back where we were earlier."
“Oh,” Rose blushed “ya, you go take a bath. I’m going to be over here.” She waved her hand at where she had been sitting. Backing up she almost tripped then went to go take seat.
Emilia shrugged off Rose's strange actions and continued walking along the shore, then eventually found a spot private and clean enough to strip and wash the grime of the pipe off.
‘What was that about?’ Lisa asked coming from around the tree.
“Oh, nothing. She’s just going to go take a bath.”
‘Are you sure it’s nothing, because you’re smiling.’ Rose put her hand up to feel her mouth, she was in fact, smiling. ‘So… what’s your plan? Now that you escaped with mean.’
“Just head east till we find civilization, I guess.”
‘Oh, that reminds me Jennie has forgiven you and would like to speak to you.’
“How many times do I have to tell you, I didn’t do it.” She almost threw down th bread.
Emilia ducked her head underwater and squinted her eyes open. Not soon after she spotted something glinting in the water and swam down to receive it. She emerged, it was a locket with weird engravings: "Si vis venire per quod vas esset de essentia furor tibi destinantur, in vincula conici in ea nam cetera of vestri dies."
'We know you didn't do it, we're a part of you, but there's no proof you didn't do it.' Lisa sat down where Emilia had been sitting.
"There was a note left behind, what do you mean there's no proof?" Rose threw her hands up.
'Yes, but your handwriting has always been similar, too similar to tell apart that is.'
"I miss it when it was just the two of us, before Jennie joined in, before all of this happened."
'Jennie would still like to talk to you, to explain to you the reasoning of what happened. You must meet her at night. I don't know why, shes just like that.'
"Ok, fine. Only if it helps bring things back to where they were."
Emilia rubbed the engravings with her finger, wondering what the language was. She put on the necklace and felt light and airy. She sat down, totally stark naked, enjoying the rushing sensation in her head.
'I hope you realize things will never go back to the way they were.'
"I know, but it can get better than this. I'm only used to having one of you in my head."
'And I'm used to only one of us being here, but she is really nice. Just traumatized.'
"If you say so, I've heard the stories of how fun she is."
Emilia shut her eyes, seeing strange patterns beneath her lids. They spelled out faces that were unnaturally pretty or handsome, that reached out and whispered sweet nothings in her ears, belonging with her and accepting her.
'I bet you've heard the stories, but she was in her head when she died. Shouting out not to do it, how do you think she feels?' Lisa waved her hands around telling a story with the movements.
"I can understand how that feels, but what about me? Being put here right after losing someone that close to me people thinking I had something to do with it." She was yelling now, not worrying if Emilia would hear her, almost certain that she wouldn't.
Emilia slipped deeper and deeper into her trance, ignoring everything and anything. An atom bomb could've been dropped and she'd show no interest.
"Do you think I don't miss her? Did it occur to anyone that I had no time to grieve the loss of someone that important? Does anyone think that I have it in me to bring her to that point?" Rose was crying by now, a total mess put on top of what was already a mess.
'I know how you feel, and you've been holding it together so well.'
"What do mean holding it together, you mean not talking to you?"
Emilia distantly floated off, her body told her she was cold, but she paid no mind. She was all for those strange humans, reaching out and purring in a strange tone of voice.
'No, for missing the funeral you haven't cried, haven't done anything.'
"What's the point of doing anything anymore? I'm done with this." Rose walked off to the lake to go find Emilia, her face stained with tears.
Emilia didn't stir as she approached, just kept her eyes shut and faded away in her subconscious.
Rose started to dry her tears but saw Emilia sitting in the water, not aware of any of her surroundings. She ran over to her and tried to gain her attention. Emilia's subconscious was winning, Rose did the first thing that came to her. She dragged Emilia out of the water and laid her down in the sand.
(The locket kinda looks like this, with the engravings on the back: https://www.therussianstore.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/small_image/280x/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/d/j/dj01930a01.jpg
Emilia's breathing was slow and steady as if she were asleep, and she didn't respond to herself being dragged out of the water. The necklace shone like neon lights in the dark.
