“What do you mean I’m lucky? I’m starving, I’m thirsty, I’m being abused. And what do you mean project thrity-seven?” This one interaction had turned around Rose's way of thinking. Maybe the nurses really were trying to do harm. This whole asylum didn’t seem like a normal place, it felt more like an abandoned shed in the middle of the forest. In fact she would probably rather be there than here.
"It means you're leaving. I'm due soon for a brain… some type of surgery that won't work. I'm project thirty-seven, or thirty-seventh in line due for death. You have parents. That's why you're leaving." Emilia leaned up and surveyed Rose through her dark eyes. "You think I'm totally insane? Good. That's what they want us to think. None of the people here are prisoners. They're items and blank canvases for sick practices." She looked around and leaned closer into Rose and began talking in a totally different tone of voice, that sounded perfectly normal and human, "Three days from now, when the sun is highest, I'll be taken in for my surgery. You need to take this opportunity and run. All of the nurses will be around the basement area, and the alarm will be shut off for two minutes when the sun is on that patch of slate right there." She pointed to a piece of upraised floor. "That's your chance. Don't worry about any of us, run. Run and tell everyone about this place. Don't worry about me or the other patients in the basement. You're one of the lucky ones. Take advantage of it."
“How do you know that’s your death date? Why must I run?” Rose was scared by all in information coming at her. She knew Emilia was supposed crazy yet she didn’t feel it. She thought over what the girl said again. “Wait you or the other patients in the basement. You mean there more will be more of you in the basement.”
Emilia gave her a dark look. "I can't tell you more. The nurses are suspicious of me, so they're going to remove a portion of my brain, which promptly will kill me in a matter of days since they let it rot. I've seen the patients downstairs, so they don't want me escaping. You have to go because no one deserves to live here in these conditions."
“And you’re fine with this? Have you tried to leave?” Rose knew she wa asking a lot of questions and the longer they talked the more nurses would look at them. Rose was getting uneasy at the thought of staying here any longer.
Emilia nodded. "Yes, and I got captured. I tried multiple times." She looked around. "Just make sure you're snappy, okay?"
“Okay, will I see you before then?” Rose was ready to leave as soon as her question was answered. Try to attract as little amount of attention possible.
"Maybe tomorrow. I don't know. If not, good luck." She leaned away from Rose and leaned back in her chair. Other than the fact that she was malnourished, she was very pretty.
(I kinda want them both to escape together and it be like a lesbi thing)
(I’m up for that, my inner shipper was shipping them lol)
“I’ll try to see you tomorrow. And if I may ask why were you put in here?” Rose couldn’t resist from asking the question knowing the answer could be something that keeps her up at night or it might even be a pointless reason.
(Yeee)
"I… I think it was because of the eating disorder that I got from when I was abused. My dad repeatedly starved me so my mother took me here, with thoughts that I would be properly treated." Emilia sighed.
“Why they thought wrong. I’ll see you tomorrow.” With that Rose got up and went across the room trying to act invisible. The nurses were still looking at her so she went to the bathroom trying to get away.
(Let's go to the next day so they talk some more)
The next day the nurses skimmed off on Rose's pills and gave her some brittle bread and a small block of cheese, then some time to talk to Emilia.
Rose walked over and sat next to Emilia. “I managed to make it here.” Rose spoke with a smile wondering what information Emilia would tell her today.
Emilia smiled faintly, which looked very attractive on her sunken face. "I've managed to as well."
“Do you happen to have an escape plan? Or any extra info?” Rose whispered becoming more careful of what she says and where she says it than she has ever been.
"You'll have to lockpick the door." She handed Rose a bobby pin. "I suppose you can practice tonight when all of the nurses are off. They get off when the moonlight shines past the slate."
“How do you know all of this?” Taking the bobby pin and putting it in her pants so that the nurses won’t find it.
"I've been here for a long time, peering from my little window." Emilia gave Rose a sad look. "I hope to be able to meet you more, but unfortunately my life will soon be drawing to a close. It was nice to meet you, though."
“Can’t I take you with me? We could come up with a plan.” Rose saw something in the corner of her eye, but she could tell it was one of her ‘friends’ that put her in this place.
"No." She shook her head. "I'll be down in the basement, and it's much too dangerous to come and try to save me."
“What if I get you before you go to the basement?” Her ‘friend’ coming closer, wishing it would just go away.
