"Not really. I think that's why they wanted to tear me open. I don't really feel fear."
"Not really. I think that's why they wanted to tear me open. I don't really feel fear."
“There is nothing you don’t feel inferior to?” Rose was surprised at Emilia’s answer.
"No. Nothing at all." Emilia shook her head.
“That’s cool and if you don’t mind me asking have you always felt this way?” All the walking was starting to catch up with Rose.
"As much as I can remember. I didn't feel anything when my dad lashed out or when my mom fled and got herself killed… leaving me with him. Nothing. Well, fear, at least."
“My greatest fear was caused when my sister died a few weeks ago, or at least brought up a few levels.” Rose slowed down looking up at the sky to see where the sun was, directly overhead, meaning it was only noon.
"That's terrible." Emilia meant it, too. "I'm sorry."
“How much longer till we reach town, do you think?”
"I dunno. Maybe another mile or so." Emilia was glad for the change of subject.
“So what exactly is our plan once we reach town? It’s not like we have any money nor are we presettable to get a job anywhere.”
"Maybe a church will help us," Emilia said simply while she walked over a rock.
“What do you mean?” Rose looked over at Emilia.
"Sometimes churches help homeless people or those in need. I used to work at a church, therefore I happen to know that."
Rose thought of the few times she went to church, her family wasn’t extremely religious. “That right, I forgot about that.”
"Yeah. You usually don't see them around, though. But churches will definitely help for a while."
“Ok then first stop church.” Rose threw her hand up to make a point.
Emilia nodded. "Maybe I could get a job at a market or something to get us money."
“But we don’t look presettable enough to get a job.” She motioned to the muddy, dirty clothes and her hair which was the same with a few added knots.
"We'll get presentable enough at a church." Emilia shrugged. "And if the store or whatever is desperate enough."
“I guess.” Rose was thinking about what it’s like to have a job, considering she never thought of getting one.
Emilia sighed gently and walked a little faster; it was starting to get really hot.
Rose walked faster to trail behind Emilia, already starting to sweat.
Emilia steered over to a dense tree casting its shadow over a creek, which led from the lake. "Maybe we could pause here." Emilia truly wanted to, as well. It was gorgeous in this spot.
Rose was glad Emilia suggested that, she had wanted to stop,a while ago. “A pause sounds nice right now.”
Emilia nodded and sat down near the creek then threw her legs into the cold water.
