"What do you want?" Adara scowled, shoving herself up, trying to stand. "And why am I here?"
The music was starting to get on her nerves, or maybe it was just the guy in front of her.
"What do you want?" Adara scowled, shoving herself up, trying to stand. "And why am I here?"
The music was starting to get on her nerves, or maybe it was just the guy in front of her.
Hinata slowly opened her eyes, looking around without getting up. Eventually, she sat up, looking over at Matthew. She gently nudged him to wake him up.
"What happened?" She asked, feeling groggy. It was like her head had been stuffed with cotton, and she had a weird taste in her mouth.
Aisen sighed before sitting at the edge of the bed Adara was on. He looked horrifyingly tired.
“Carlsen… is being held hostage,” he said forcefully. It was something he didn’t want to say though it seemed like he needed to.
Matthew jumped when he was shook. When he turned to see Hinata awake, he knew what he had to do.
“I was… just walking around and saw you knocked out cold in the middle of the street… my instincts were to immediately take you to Cassius and yeah… that’s why we’re here,” he explained casually and tired. It looked like he’d been looking over her for a while now, hence while he fell asleep while doing so.
Hinata nodded, then winced. Nodding was not good right now. She rubbed her forehead, eyes closed.
"Thank you," she said, opening her eyes a little to look at Matthew. She gave him a weak smile.
The Nature Knight smiled back, his face turning a bit redder than usual.
”It’s only right that I do so,” he mentioned.
The door to the room opened as the doctor, Cassius, walked into the room. Although his face was pale, he managed to crack a smile at Hinata.
”Good to see you awake,” he said, almost forcefully trying to be happy.
Hinata looked up when Cassius came in.
"Good to be awake," she said. She took on a concerned look when she saw how he was acting.
"How bad are things?"
Kye sat up then winced, rubbing his head. "Ow," he groaned. He then looked around. "What the…. How did I get here?"
You were knocked out.
No der. I never would have guessed that by the headache I currently have.
Well, that would explain how you got here.
Thank you, Gelion, I really appreciate your help.
Hey, I'm not the one who asked the stupid question.
Fair enough.
He climbed to his feet and brushed himself off, one hand pressed into his now throbbing temple. One comfort he had was that this was an area he could move around in with very little problem. Caves were his home, though the mine shaft look reminded him of his first time in any type of cave. When he was trapped in a mine shaft and left to die.
Shaking the memories from his head, he reached into his bag and pulled out a torch. He lit it in the same moment he pulled it out, flooding the cave with light and allowing him to see what all was around him.
Cassius smiled but sighed at the question.
”Carlsen was taken hostage by some mad men in exchange for a portion of control over the eleventh to the thirteenth generation of Knights. I’m sorry, ‘half’ the control over us,” Cassius explained. He was stressed, sure, but he did hide his stress pretty well for someone whose brother was taken hostage.
The light that came from Kye’s torch was refracted and reflected by the crystals in the walls. As he would make his way around, noises can be heard somewhere from the darkness in front of him. There wasn’t a clear person or a clear figure that was making the sound. It just existed there for some odd reason.
Hinata pressed her lips together. This wasn't good, this wasn't good at all. Why did they want the control? What were they planning? Hinata attempted to stand up, but quickly ruled that out.
Are you not even the slightest bit concerned about the sounds echoing around you?
No.
Why not?
Because I know how to use a cave to my advantage. If something should try and attack me, they will have to find me first.
Kye continued forward through the cave listening to the sounds carefully. Whatever was making them knew how to do the same thing he did. Throw sound and confuse where they are. An incredibly useful technique that he used a lot when hiding from people, or things. Send whatever was chasing him off in a completely different direction from where he was.
"And what does that have to do with me?" Adara asked, voice colder than her uncle's ice ability. "I never wanted to see you guys again. Why do you tell me this?" In a small corner of her mind, though, a flash of anger went through her at Carlsen's capture. When they had been on her world, both brothers had saved her many times, and she was grateful. Maybe a little more, but she didn't want to think about it.
”Of course, you didn’t need to know that. But I feel like you should know,” Cassius mentioned subtly. He gave a broken yet honest smile. As the elder brother of the family, he should’ve known what to do… yet he didn’t.
Matthew gazed at Cassius with clear worry in his eyes. Working decades with this man made him realize that he really cared for his brothers, especially the young one and to have such a situation happen…
As Kye would make his way further into the cave, the walls were more aligned with crystals than before. Though it seemed quite beautiful, it also looked as if it was leading to danger or… whatever this path was supposed to be leading towards.
”None of your business… just needed someone to tell that to…” Aisen said softly. His voice was quite weak as well as his structure. A broken Knight wasn’t an ideal scene to see but here it was. Granted, he didn’t know what to do.
Why are you going this way?!
Because up is fun
But you know better than anyone that when it comes to caves up is not always out.
I never said out, I said fun.
You hear that? You hear those sirens going off? Those are the imminent danger and possible death sirens all going off. We are going to die if you keep going this way!!!
No we are not. Now stop being a big baby.
He stopped at one point and put his torch out, then he waited for a moment to allow his senses to adjust. If you've ever been deep in a cave where the sun don't shine? You can't see anything even if it were millimeters in front of your face.
This wasn't a problem for Kye though, because he spent months underground and practiced seeing without his eyes.
My heart is going to stop working.
You do not have a heart.
Ouch, I might be cold hearted, but I do actually have one.
That is my heart, not yours.
Ada opened her mouth for a moment, like she was about to say something, but nothing came out. She wasn't used to seeing him this weak. It was… humbling, to say the least. And maybe, just maybe, it made her anger feel silly, useless.
She reached out and lightly touched Aisen's cheek, her touch light and feathery, barely there. She looked at him for a long, long moment. "What are you going to do about it?" She finally asked. "Go and save him?"
The Duality Knight chuckled softly at those words. Such a naiveness…
”If only it was that easy…” he gave, his small giggle was almost forced. What had truly happened during that short period of time was ultimately unknown but one thing was for sure, a lot of people were affected by said situation. He reached his own hand to softly hold on to Adara’s wrist, returning it to her before he retracted his own hand.
”You said you didn’t want to see me, right…?” he asked, of course, with his sarcastic nature which… wasn’t as natural as it used to be.
”I’ll see myself out then—“ he regarded as he stood up from the edge of the bed.
"Well, I didn't want to see you," she said. "But you're here, aren't you?" Not about to back down and admit that she wanted him here, Adara stared up at him, unwilling to show him that she did want him here, very much.
Looking back, Aisen was bombarded with a mix of emotions. He didn’t know how to process it all to be perfectly honest. He decided based on his own guts to stay here… for now. Sitting back down on the edge of the bed, he gave a soft and quiet sigh. With the window at the other end of the room open, the winds and breeze of the outside came as quickly as they went away. It had been a long day… perhaps for everyone involved in the situation.
”Are you feeling better?” he asked, his voice was calm and soothing for once. He didn’t bother looking at Adara when he asked or rather… he didn’t want to look at her for unspeakable reasons.
The mage fiddled with her fingers, silent for a long, long moment. Thoughts and feelings and emotions swirled through her head, and she felt unbalanced. She wasn't used to feeling this way. It wasn't logical. It wasn't something she could destroy. It was… inside her, and unless she destroyed herself, it wouldn't be going away.
Finally, she spoke. "I - yeah, I am. What happened, anyway?"
The Knight turned to her before returning to himself.
”Two Knights were found dead inside the Ancient Arena, a place where Knights, under no circumstances, were not allowed to enter during daytime. We knew that the claim was true thanks to one of our Knights who had eyesight abilities… however… there were three Knights who went to the Arena; two were found dead, the other… you can probably guess who it was. In exchange for Carlsen, the capturer wanted a large portion of control over the eleventh, the twelfth, and the thirteenth generation of Knights…” Aisen claimed. Although, he was sure that one question would be present in Adara’s mind. One, he quickly answered.
”—and no, I have no idea why my brother would go there when it is prohibited.”
"And are you going to let them?" Adara asked, although she kind of knew the answer already. "Or… is your brother gone?" She looked at him, trying her best not to let a shred of sympathy show on her face. "Is there a way to save him without the captor getting the other Knights?"
”No. He’s not gone… his aura is still burning and I can feel it… however,” he took a quick moment to breath in.
”—it would seem like he’s somewhere outside the Labyrinth. This would be the hard part… we don’t know who had killed those two Knights, nor do we know who’d taken Carl. And… I really hope that there’s a way to do such a thing. Otherwise, the life and death balance would be thrown out the window,” Aisen said, ironically shaping a piece of paper into the shape of ball and throwing it outside the open window.
"Outside the Labyrinth?" Adara looked stunned even at the mention of that. "I - I didn't think that was possible." She had only been here for a bit, but already, it felt like ages. "Are you going to try and save him?" They had saved her life before. She wanted to help.
”Shouldn’t that be obvious already?” he almost snapped at Adara when the question was asked. Who in their right mind wouldn’t? He didn’t care if Ada was an outsider, that question should’ve been one easy enough for her to answer.
She drew back as if struck, then composed herself, her usual arrogant, cold mask falling over her face. "Well, good. I'd hate for you to be an asshole and disloyal. Luckily, you're not. At least you have the kindness to help save your brother, if not your girlfriend friend."
